I have come to the half-assed conclusion that Gamespy.com is becoming a monopoly with all the gaming sites. Almost as if someone has allot of money and is seeing some sort of financial outcome somehow through the gaming community, simply by taking over good gaming sites, making permissions and other features actually limiting players but convincing them its good, or will "help the industry", also slapping the gamespy logo on it, or planetsomethingorother.com.
Is this only obvious to me or is there others, maybe I'm just paranoid?

I don't see it that way, they are just expanding, that will sure piss some folks off.

There are heaps, no hundreds, no thousands of gamesites out there, if anything it will push the other sites to produce a better product, we the consumers benfit!

(p.s. Lets hope it works out like that :))

What's funny is that with all their sites and all their people "working" for them (not saying getting paid), they still probably aren't making much money.

Do you ever wonder if game companies pay them to create a Planet site about their game? Hmm...

Well, I do think they are attempting at least, to create a monopoly. But I'd just LOVE to see the day they try to take the ZONE! lol!

(Still pissed that Lamespy Arcade bought out Mplayer. )

Speaking as normal me:

Gamespy have done alot of good.

They're given the gaming industry that nice polished feel to it, which can only be a benefit in bringing new people into the community.

Now speaking as a mod developer:

The advent of the 'planet' sites is the single most important thing to happen to the gaming industry, outside of the production studios.

It gives a place for people of all areas of expertise (mappers, coders, texture artists and so forth) to come together, enlist to work for various mods, and it has led to some people being picked up by corporations.

Without Gamespy, 'planet' sites would never have come into existance.

Maybe Gamespy do have a monoloply, but who cares, at least they're doing a good job (90% of the time).
