Yap, I am finally going to buy UT. Now my question is: What bad abilities Ued2 have and what good? Is Ued2 better than Ued1, and why? I have heard that Ued2 2DShapeEditor is bad, so what's so bad about it? Tell me, I need to know!

Ok, UED2 is going to be more stable, and let you do more things than in UED1. The problem is that the current version of UE2 (from the 420 patch) isn't finished yet, making it possibly more unstable than UED1. I for one am waiting for a more stable version of UED2 before i start using it.

I am currenly using UED 2.0 and have to say that I personally like it (definitely more user friendly). However there are definite gliches in the program (importing brushes for one).

Yeah...and it looks pretty too. But I had to uninstall patch 420 just to get rid of it 'cause it's full of glitches. I'm stickin' with the tried and true until they fix it......

Bear in mind that UED2 is, I do believe, still in BETA, but as far as I am concerned it's a lot easier to use than UED1, mainly due to the fact that the Tooltips work when you run the mouse over a button... I have patch 420 installed and everything is running smooth as hell!!!
Can't wait for the next update to the Editor though 'cos some things are a bit shakey still. Such as when you open the rebuild options the screen doesn't change properly when you click on the tabs.

Ok my editor won't work. How can I have patch 420 AND Ued1?

tricky one this, I used UED2 for some time, but after realising most of the features I use most often were not present yet I went back to UED 1. for example I had to work my way through the advanced options to turn off the vertex clipping (when two brushes clip there nodes together trying to be helpful).

Are the guys at Epic stupid? Why would they FORCE developers to download this beta version of the editor as part of an official patch? Why does the the editor have to be part of the UT patch sequence at all? It shouldn't be. I should be able to be up-to-date with my UT version and still use the old, working editor.

that looks like the topic of another good thread, but back to FedTed's original question, ive never used Ued 1, i only got around to level editing after the 420 patch. despite that i believe i can form an opinion based on tutorials (which are mostly Ued 1 based) and what ive read about previous versions. it seems that Ued 2 is more stable, and a bit more polished (with more polishing and stability to come, as i understand it).
however, some of the functionality of Ued 1 seems to be missing or well hidden in the latest version. as an example, the skew button has disappeared. damn shame, 'cause i definitely need it in my new map. the replacement for it is to use vertex editing, which is still buggy and is much more fuss. the 2d editor is also more stable, but missing some features from the previous incarnation.
swings and roundabouts, is how the English would put it. im not complaining too much, though. Epic has given the community a powerful tool, which few other companies had done before.

Unreal ED 2.0 is DEFINITELY more stable. I'd rather have a program where I don't have to constantly save every single change I made just in case the program crashes.
UED2 has never crashed on me once and I find it to perform much better than the previous one.
If you carefully read Epic's notes, they tell you to make a backup of the previous version of UED so that you can use it when you need to.

Couple other missing features in UED2 that I used:
1) Can no longer use mathematical operators in the sizing of builder brushes
2) Can't search for words in script editor (or it may just not work on my machine, since there is a button for it)
I'm sure there was something else, but I can't remember right now.
As far as the list of things that I wish they would do, I won't even start, because I don't think I could stop...

Does anybody know when the patch for Ued2 comes? I'm staying whit Ued1, because my Ued2 crashes VERY often. Also, my actor browser shows nothing, and I HATE new texture browser, and other browsers.

Oh yeah, now I remember what the other missing feature was (because I just needed it a few moments ago): They took out the button that selects all items inside of the builder brush. I used that all the time.

They took that button away?! D-A-M-N! That little button is VERY VERY useful. I think I will never use Ued2... So, when does the patch come?
