I enjoy the music from Unreal, but it's another load on the CPU, that if lifted could increase performance. The soundtrack can be purchased on CD here:

I was thinking of getting this because I notice that Unreal has the option for CD audio in the advanced options and I assume that the game works with the CD soundtrack, playing the tracks according to the map.

I knew that I should try putting a CD in and seeing if it worked, and to my unsurprise, it didn't work.

If anyone knows how to get CD audio to properly work with Unreal, I'd appreciate it.

The game uses the MOD format especially for game situations changing the mood of the moment.
Because the game is setup like this, it wont use the CD.
get yourself a faster cpu, and if not, a 3D card.

Yes, you can use the music CD with Unreal, I have it too.

all you need to do is type CDTRACK #

and you're set. You can play any cd that way actually.
