my quest to use the opengl driver

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

For the Voodoo3 Stick with D3D, And to use open GL its simple, go to your game preferences and change your Direct 3D to OpenGL. Now I know its a really hard thing to do so make sure you are very relaxed when you do it. One wrong click and..... Ummmm.... You will have to do it again.

Do you not remember anything from last time? :p

First get the Loki driver here. Then put it in your system folder.

Ok,there are somethings you are going to need to change in your INF and UT ini files.
Look for this section in your UnrealTournament.ini file in your System folder:

[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=False
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailTextures=True

And change it to this:

[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
UseGammaExtension=1
UseModulatedGamma=0
UseS3TC=0
UseTNT=0
MinDepthBits=16
MaxLogUOverV=8
MaxLogVOverU=8
UseMultiTexture=1
UsePalette=1
UseAlphaPalette=0
ShareLists=0
AlwaysMipmap=0
DoPrecache=0
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=True
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailTextures=True
UseTrilinear=False
MaxAnisotropy=0
SupportsLazyTextures=1
DisableCulling=1

I assume you already installed the textures like you said so now move on to the INF ini.

Replace the same section in your INF.ini file ([OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]) to this:

[OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice]
UseGammaExtension=1
UseModulatedGamma=0
UseS3TC=0
UseTNT=0
MinDepthBits=16
MaxLogUOverV=8
MaxLogVOverU=8
UseMultiTexture=1
UsePalette=1
UseAlphaPalette=0
ShareLists=0
AlwaysMipmap=0
DoPrecache=0
Translucency=True
VolumetricLighting=True
ShinySurfaces=True
Coronas=True
HighDetailActors=True
DetailTextures=True
UseTrilinear=False
MaxAnisotropy=0
SupportsLazyTextures=1
DisableCulling=1

A very easy way to change you driver back and forth from OGL to D3D is to go to your ini file agian which one is dependant of what you want to start up(i.e. INF or UT)and change the line that says:

[FirstRun]
FirstRun=432

To:

[FirstRun]
FirstRun=0

And then run whatever you changed,INF or UT.

Since you don't have a GeForce,I'm not sure how this will work for you,but it's worth a shot. Good luck. :)

Overtly Serious Chappy.
The Results...

Well, it worked. I can now use a practically perfect OpenGL with UT through my Velocity 4400 (that's an old PCI TNT derivative folks).

The Results (in term of fps...)
well, it reminds me of when I first played Q2 with the very same card (except with P133). It goes quite nicely, except with every so often the there's a pause. Not too much, but it's noticeable, though not annoying)

So in other words, if it runs fairly well in 640*480 on my machine, then by all means get it to work.
