View Full Version : Designing a new mesh

Can somebody tell me how or point me in the direction of a tutorial on how to build a 3D mesh? I've used the 2D editor to create doorways and other symetrical things but I'd like to create another style of chair. One with 4 legs that you can shoot between. I'd also like to design a different type of animal (similar to the cow) and animate it. Any tips?

Sweet Game!.. Let's port it to Unicos.

Hi There!

Your best bet is to get a 3d program that will export to dxf or the QuakeII or Unreal formats. You can't actually create animatable meshes in UED, and I'd hesitate in using it for any really detailed geometry.

I'm told Milkshape (?) is good for this, I've personally used Imagine, 3dSMax, Strata Studio Pro, Form Z and Maya. Of these, Max if the only one I'm aware of that can export directly to UT format. Otherwise you will have to export each animation frame as a .dxf file, use something like QME to put them all together into an animation, then skin them and bring them into UT.

For non-animated objects (chairs and such) you can build them elsewhere, then exprt them as .dxf files. UED can import .dxf files as brushes.

If you have access to any of the modeling programs for QII, (QME is a pretty good one)you can build a model there and use Crusher (gazpacho.net) to export it to UT format.

Check out some of the 3d modelign sites, like 3dcafe for help with the modeling. The programs are all different, but a lot of the techniques are very similar.

Good Luck!
