View Full Version : PS2's answer to Shenmue?

I just spotted a kick-ass game over at IGNPS2. It's called Shadow of Destiny, and it's made by the same guy who directed Silent Hill. Here's an excerpt from the preview (http://ps2.ign.com/previews/14248.html)...
<BLOCKQUOTE><font size="-1">quote:</font><HR>"Created by the mastermind who directed the cerebral and disturbingly horrific Silent Hill, Shadow of Destiny is certainly a different kind of adventure game. Taking Silent Hill as a cue, Konami's designer has created an even more labyrinthine story that enables you, as Eike Kusch, a young blond man, to go back through your life, picking up the pieces of how it all came down. The premise itself is chilling, somewhat like Charles ****ens' Scrooge, but favoring more mystery and exploration, and no Christmas stories, either. But seriously, the game quite clearly requires a lot of time and patience, as it is a totally clue-based adventure game that travels into various parts of a large German town, and through different time/space "zones" as well."[/quote]

If it sports the kind of interactivity I am getting with Shenmue, then sign me up! Looks great!

Why do these young blonde men in some games tend to look like skinny blond women?

Is that why you ditched your other alter-ego "MegaMan"? (A console only platformer...) And if consoles are gay, does that also reveal the sexual orientation of MegaMan himself? Or is he just more sensitive than your average character?
And despite his origins, are you concerned that PacMan might also be gay, considering all the many appearances he has made on numerous gay consoles throughout the years?
Just curious...

Yeah...and Street Fighter II is the best fighting game ever!!! And the Atari 2600 RULES!!!
Stuff changes...stuff gets better...before Shenmue there was something eveyone thought could not be beat...and after Shenmue, there will be something that blows it away. Simple law of video games. (Doom II was great! But I sure play alot of UT right now...wonder why that is?)

I'm not going to say that Shenmue isn't an outstanding game, because it is. The graphics are amazing. The interactivity is astonishing. It's the gameplay that kills it for me. I spent about six hours playing it without making any notable progress. Here's what my game basically consisted of...
Character A: Sorry, I haven't seen any black car. Maybe you should try Characters B and C. You know how they love to gossip.
Characters B and C: Sorry, we haven't seen anything, but we hear Character D was almost run over by a black car. Maybe you should try him.
Character D: Sorry, I didn't get a good look at it. It was going too fast. Maybe you should try Character E.
*Feed the kitten*
*Go to sleep*
Character E: Sorry, I didn't see anything. Character F was saying that Character G got splashed with mud from a black car.
Character G: Yes, I saw a black car that day. But I didn't see who was in it. Try Character H. I hear he had a conversation with the driver.
Character H: Yeah, mon. I talked to da' guy who was drivin'. There was a guy in da' back seat wearin' Chinese clothes. I don't know anytin' else. Try askin' Character I.
*Feed the kitten*
*Go to sleep*
Character I: Why do you need to know about Chinese people? Try Character J, K, or L.
Character J's Wife: Sorry, my husband passed away recently. Try Character K or L.
Character K: I don't know anything about that man. You'll have to ask Character L.
*Feed the kitten*
*Go to sleep*
Character L: I don't know him, but Character M, N, or O might. Try them.
It just kept going like that for six hours straight without any action. I finally got so tired of running around that I shut it off and haven't played it since. I'm hooked on Final Fantasy IX now. Maybe once I beat it, I'll go back and try Shenmue again.

Same experience at first for me. But then I started really listening to where I needed to go next, and it picked up considerably....If you follow the notebook to the T, you get pretty far...not that I have not purchased little VF fighters from the gum ball machine, or drank about 15 cokes, or performed kitten maintenance, but the story is pretty linear, of you follow it through...I am hooked now.

IGNPS2 just updated their preview (http://ps2.ign.com/previews/14248.html) with some new media. The only thing worth noting is this movie (http://ps2movies.ign.com/media/previews/video/sod/sod_3.mov). The animation is just freaky.

Keiichi ,
I just got mine yesterday and have been playing UT basically nonstop. Yeah, I know, why play a PC title on a console? I don't have a clue, I guess and now I'm babbling...glaargggh...
