View Full Version : Score 1 for Macintosh

Microsoft confuses me.
I just installed the latest version of Internet Explorer (5) and Outlook Express (also 5) on my G4 (MacOS9) here at work and WOW, both the browser and email progie are 100% better...scratch that 100 TIMES better then the Windows versions.
IE5 Mac is pretty (nice Aqua like interface ), and has lots of real cool functionality but maybe it is not significantly better then the Windows version, but OE 5 is amazing! I liked it so much that I went ahead and installed the Windows version on my PC at home only to be disapointed (I've been a die hard Eudora fan since v.2). There are several functions of OE5 for Macintosh that are non-existant in the Win version (the main one I wanted it for was it's ability to change the color of quoted text in a message, since I subscribe to a couple of listservs in digest format that would be kickass, but alas the Win version sucks)
You would think that Microsoft would make their Windows software better then their Mac software, it sure makes Windows look weak ;)
I guess when I get home this evening, I'll be uninstalling OE5 off my WinME machine
BTW does anyone know of a Eudora plugin I can get that changes the color of quoted text?

No, Aqua is the name for the MacOSX GUI.
You can color it any of the standard MacOS colors (I prefer Graphite, but there's Bondi Blue, Grape, Lime, Blueberry, Strawberry, Tangarine, Powerbook Bronze and Powerbook Black. They just color the buttons, but the rest of the interface is a nice gray striped look.
Go here and look at it

and lets bitch at Microsoft and see if they will release a cooler version of IE for Win :)

Only on a mac, can a Graphical User Interface be named after something in the produce section at the Loeb.
And yeah, send it if you can. I lost all my **** when I formatted

I use IE 5.0 for the Mac, but I have 3 main problems w/ it. 1. It tends to be unstable, crashing fairly frequently when doing general browsing and encountering content it doesn't particularly like. 2. Though improved from earlier versions, it still has compatibility problems w/ complex-scripted web pages, especially when it comes to sites that have in-browser video streaming players. 3. When you quit, it doesn't release all of the RAM it was using back to the system, so you're left w/ this block of RAM that remains "used" even though nothing is using it, until you restart the Mac.
I use IE only because Netscape isn't much better, and doesn't have anywhere near the functionality.
I agree about Outlook Express 5, though. It's very nice.

Hi,
I also use this version to surf with the mac. But I think it is not so comfortable to configurate then the 5.5 on the Wintel-Systems. But in comparison I think it is faster!
