Hate to bitch about your poll, but what about Libertarians, and Green Party folk, and Reform Party people, and Independents (should have at least put in an "other" field.

GRRRR! What am I, chopped liver? At least give an "other" option if you're not going to include any of the other top parties (edit: darn, ya beat me zundy).
Libertarian here.
PS- In most cases I'd probably rather a republican win than a democrat, but you won't see me voting for either unless their views suggest that they are libertarians in disguise. ;)

I have a confession to make, although I've been a Republican for years I have a very wide Libertarian streak. I'd like to see more libertarianism in the Republican party (maybe enough so that the two can merge)

I don't think any one party has a lock on all the right answers, so I've never believed in affiliating w/ any one party in particular. I think Democrats have good approaches in some issues, bad in others. Same for Republicans. Being a mainstream kind of guy, though, I rarely agree w/ socialists (actually I never agree w/ them... :p), libertarians, "Natural Law" (whatever the hell that means), or any other fringe groups.
And sorry, Zund, the GOP & libertarianism will never truly mix. As you know, Republicans are conservatives before anything else. So a radical, libertarian idea such as drug legalization is an anathema to them (and if you ask me, I'm totally w/ them on that). Libertarians and conservatives agree over economic issues, but they'll never agree on social ones.

Damn, Zund, too bad we didn't run across each other when I lived in Wichita. Ever heard of the Republican Liberty Caucus?

Actually, Alpha, I don't completely discount the possibility that the Republican party will someday soften on that issue. After all, all it takes is logic and the consistent application of the "Republican" values of individual liberty and smaller government. I admit, however, that such expressions of classical liberalism from Republicans is often only rhetoric, and that the prospects for ending the drug war are pretty dismal in the short term. But consider that one of the most respected, old line conservatives, William Buckley, has been publically calling for and end to the War for years. There are others.

Where's the "I couldn't care less about either" side option?
It's a wise person who knows the difference between free speech and cheap talk.

Pretorious, this isn't the place to be a "hardcore" democrat, even though I am extremely liberal, you won't find many like us in a gun-crazed forum -- i.e. Anti-gun control. But hey we all love guns. So I find that basis enough to be friends. Just for future reference, us long time forumers have got into some pretty heated political debates, with right versus left. And so I try to leave affilations to the "Real World".
Well...Even so the world would be a much better place without Republicans. :) J/K
