Okay. There are FOUR threads on this page alone dedicated to sigs. Sig tests, showing off sigs, etc. They are taking up server space and are pushing other posts off the board.
LIMIT SIG-RELATED ISSUES TO ONE TOPIC ONLY.
Even better, delete the thread when you're done testing! Yes, you - as the originator of a thread - can delete it. From hereon in, I'm going to start deleting multiple sig test threads myself.
Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated.

What about a voluntary size limit on sig pictures.
Every time I visit other boards (and even this one occasionally), I shudder, because the size of people's sigs are ten times as big as the text they write. It just seems like shameless self promotion to me (which isn't a bad thing, just a slightly annoying thing).
Just a thought.

I just tried to delete a very old post that I Edit to check my sig and it told me "A message cannot be deleted when it has replies." I tried :)

Actually, without moderator power, you can't delete the posts of another author. So if your thread gets replies, you can no longer delete it. I know, I've tried. You can still lock it, however.

I've recently decided that all sig tests that I do will be "tacked on" to other legit forum posts. Kinda like a "while i'm responding to this, I will take the opportunity to test a new sig" thing.

I've found that I cannot delete or lock a thread if anyone has looked at it (not just posted to it)and only if I'm on my PC at home, I have no luck if I try to delete a post from my Mac at work.
However I agree with Electricsheep, there's no reason to start an entire thread to test your sig.

Some people are uploading their sig as an attachment every time they make a post (redstorm, I'm looking at you). Quit doing that! upload it once and link to it in your profile.

Isn't it slightly ironic that most of the people who are replying and complaining have huge sigs?

Heh, mine is only 29k, so I figure thats pretty small jaeg :)
What is the minimum admin status you need to delete threads anyway? Or is it just one set limit?

I was under the impression you could delete threads so long as you were the originator. I'll check this out.
Regarding large sigs, I figure it brightens up the thread a bit. Nice to have some color in there. Just keep it reasonable (obviously 2 MB animated GIFs don't fall under this description).

IMO, 100k and over is too big for a signature. Then again, I'm not an admin, so what am I gonna do?

Obviously, a big file size matters, especialy for us 56k'ers and below
I say aslong as its under 100k i can accept it.
BUT! the visual size matters too, im tired of scrolling past huge sig's, and seriously, it seems selfish to make them that big.
I would say..anything a bit higher that one third of the active screen is good, much bigger than that, and i gotta pay my mouse wheel for overtime.

I've just tried for the last hour and a half to get my sig image to work properly, but the damn text box keeps on inserting break tags inside my html, so it just posts the html code rather than the image
But... who needs a sig anyways.

try using a different browser to enter your sig and save your preferences.
in my experience some browsers(Mac IE) but the breaks in and some don't(OmniWeb, iCab, NT IE)

Yeah, Raindog, I was having that problem too, until I entered the sig in Netscape. Works now...
