I feel like busting Dan Vogel's head (and nice screenhosts too!)

Wow, those screenshots are by far the best thing I've ever seen, but other than that I'm pissed. I bought a GF2 cuz so far it's performing OpenGL games at godlike fps. And, i tried out that Loki OpenGL (3rd) for WindowsI installed it, and the 2nd CD's s3tc textures. Well, the game looked incredible, and played smooth (fps wise). But what ruined the expirience, was how it ate my RAM up. I have 128MB RAM, and the damn thing ate all the resources I had and then started on my swap file, all you could hear is my HD working and see the game chugging a lot at times, I mean a lot, unplayable. So I email him, he first tells me "insufficient memory, you need at least 128" (I told him i had 128 before). I tell him again I have 128, then he says "'dunno what could be wrong then. I use an Athlon 800, GeForce 2 MX, 128
MB RAM and Win 98 on the machine I test this with."

He mentions a bug in my OS could be it, and I say "well how could it be just MY OS, every Win user uses Win98 2nd."

His reply "You could always install Linux /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif"

Yeah, well, no. I'm not going through that trouble, the game should've worked well in the first place, but it doesn't and I'm stuck with 0% RAM HD chugging hell.

Yes, I'm using cacheman, i did everything he told me (enable precache, cachemegs 4, disable cacheman).

Arghhh, can anyone who is 100% sure they know my problem tell me how to fix it besides installing more RAM? If not, then I'm about to put in another 64MB stick, or a 128MB.

FUCK!

Well, I just don't know! Do you think it could be that a professional software developer could be leading you astray? Or do you think that somewhere along the line you've fucked up?

I'm voting for `Fucked Up!' in this poll!

BTW, Daniel's right. I'm running UT on Linux, my memory is managed correctly (Linux has real memory management/multitasking) and my frame rate is rock solid.

I think it's a little weak to insult, by name, someone who has contributed so much to the UT community, simply because you don't understand how computers work.

You kidding me? I'm very computer litterate FYI. It's just pissing me off that I should goto a new OS because of this. His Win98 128MB system obviously performs better than mine without his HD chugging constalty. I know Linux handles RAM better than Win98, but like I said "I HAVE NO MONEY FOR RAM OR A NEW OS", I'm just a 14 kid!

Boo

i would think that someone like Daniel Vogel would be a bit more computer literate than the likes of you Jolted... Do you think that ranting about a lil computer problem in the INF forum is gonna solve your problems? No. So go bugger off before i sick Casull on you or he gets out of his cage! /infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I suppose I can't blame a Windoze problem on anyone's computer literacy, really. I apologize for that.

In case you are interested, you don't need any money to switch operating systems - one of the joys of Linux is that it's free.

Consider it - you'll get more out of your RAM. I have 320M right now, but for no reason other than that I like seeing the number on the screen on the rare occasion that I feel like rebooting. 128M is sufficient for Infiltration.

A good starting point is: http://www.debian.org

Good luck!

Yeah, but he came on #infiltration and almost made me feel guilty for a couple of seconds.

I still think that publicly insulting a hard-working hacker is childish. Oh, wait...

Never mind.

If you really have to know the main reason why people dont really like windows is that it has several irritating facets.

Did you know that the longer Windows has been on the HD, the more buggy it becomes and the more trash there is floating around the harddrive?

The more stuff you install on Windows, the chances of conflicts or funny things happening can increase.

The longer the time since you last formatted and reinstalled Windows cleanly, the slower your pc does things.

As for your problem =JoLTeD=, you could overcome it by simply defragging your harddrive, uninstalling any useless junk, clean out your harddrive of unused files etc etc. Worst come to worst, format the blady thing.

Hell, I'd settle for having the world learn anything at all.
