Come on! this will ruin all the fun, what are you supposed to do when youre dead then? Watch TV for 15 minutes? Chatting is a part of them game! Why not6 just remove the "Team Say", and let the dead people talk to everyone and there will be no more of this "terrible" giving away enemy positions business. I don't see the problem at all :(

Bahhh.. 2.85 was PERFECT!!

Ummmmm that's kinda silly. Simply removing dead team-say (and/or normal chat) will only drive people to use voice programs to fill that function. If you criminalize dead speech, only criminals will be able to speak while dead...

Hmm. This would not appear to solve the problem--just change it to voice recon.

Why are you all so deadly serious about this?

I just play to have a good time. Win or lose I always have fun playing online, and a big part of this is chatting. Be it friendly trash-talk, or casual conversation.. you can't take away the social aspect. If your not happy with what people say, you might just as well play with bots, at least they don't cheat.

And when youre dead, where's the fun in watching the last few living players wander aimlessly around on a HUGE map for 10 minutes per round? If both teams would work together in telling where the other team is, once they know, it IS still up to the living to outsmart the other team. Use cunning tactics and pure SKILL to take them down.

The only thing I hate about INF is when BOTH teams camp at different ends of the map until time expires. This is not warfare. With dead talk on, we can at least tell them to GET MOVING! KILL! KILL! KILL!

bored dead guys

DarkMateria, you do realize how ANNOYING it is to be sneaking through the alleyways of Kosovo, knowing there are five enemies left and only one of your teammates, trying your best to move as stealthily and cautiously as possible, while at the same time being distracted by all your dead teammates spamming your radio with "omg you are so slow", "yawn zZzZzZzZz", and the charming, personable "GoGoGoo!"?

i'm all in favor of the dead being able to chat after their demise, as long as i don't have to listen to it. my suggestion to the easily bored is the following: don't get killed so quickly. if you can't figure out why you're always getting capped after ten seconds of play, pay attention to the players who generally last longer, then ask them how they do it. pay attention to what they suggest, and at least make an effort to put their suggestions into effect.

one of the best things about INF is its ability to make you feel like it really is warfare, not some stupid deathmatch game. if you want "GET MOVING! KILL! KILL! KILL!", i'd suggest to you such fine games as Quake 3 Team Arena and Unreal Tournament.

Vecna..

I only use the "GET MOVING!! KILL!! KILL! KILL!" when I see 1 Red team sniper lying in prone position in his base and the last blue survivor is camping in a dark corner of his own base. Or even if their one last survivor is AFK and my team camps in the opposite side of the map FOR FARGHING 10 MINUTES! hahaha..

It's realistic, but it's still just a game. We play games to amuse ourselves, not to get pissed and argue all day.

I think you uys are missing something here, you all say you can't chat bla bla bla. You can still chat but you can't disrupt the actual rounds anymore. You'll have to talk to the other dead people. They are the ones that have the time to chat anyway so what is the problem?

Chatting is not disrupting the rounds. It just wouldn't be the same without it. Like if someone pulls a great manouver on you and kills you, EVERYONE I know or have ever played with would immediately respond with typing "Nice shot" or something like that. It's tradition. And it reminds you that you are playing agaist real people, possibly even your best friends, not just mindless bots.

Umm.. Other mods are doing very well with a similar setup. Additionally, since Infiltration's aim is _realism_ I really don't think the dead should be able to talk tot he living.

More and more I'm reading the posts lately, and it seems people are losing sight of the fact that INF is strictly a realism mod, not an arcade/realism combination that some other mods are.

If you don't like the rules of INF, I suggest you search for another mod.

GHOSTING = UNREALISTIC
0% TEAM DAMAGE = UNREALISTIC
TALKING DEAD = UNREALISTIC
UNREALISTIC != INFILTRATION

teamsay

The word from Buddy pickel and I quote:

The dead will not be able to talk to the living in a future patch. Nothing is final about the spectator mode right now. Everyone keep his or her pants on.

Anyway they haven't said what they choose to do exactly. Disabling teamsay would be the best route to choose, at least in my opinion. It would take away from the feel of the game a little not to be able to bs with your friends unless they are dead. And it would be a strong way to combat the problem. People are going to go to voice comm NO MATTER WHAT you do. If you only let dead talk to dead then they still go voice comm. You might as well just disable teamsay and people would be ridiculed if they were to give out positions in open public.

And about voice comm, people for the most part don't use it in day to day gaming. If they do use rw, there may be 2 or 3 people on a rw base station. Players of both teams could be using the same base station. Voice comm comes into play in matches much more often.

Should ghosts give away info to their mates? NO - that's cheating, giving their team an (unrealistic) unfair advantage.
Should ghosts be able to talk to the living - YES, in my opinion - it's nice to be able to tell the guy that killed you "nice shot", and if there's someone AFK at your base, it's nice to be able to tell the enemy to go and kill them (better than waiting for 3 minutes for the same result!)
In real life ghosts can't talk (probably  ) but also in real live they don't get reincarnated the next round (probably). INF is never going to be 100% realistic - it's a game, not an actual war! I say allowing a few nonrealistic things in that make the game more fun is ok.

I reckon the dead should be able to hear the living (the name should have some sort of 'active' prefix), but the living shouldnt hear the dead...

Obervers as recon?

Ghost recon sucks, I agree, but as I said in another post, I won't hesitate to point out someone who is taking advantage of a loophole ( like the now defunct *thank god* leaning bug ) by using global say while I am ghosting. I have watched my team mates walk around corners into enemy ambushes and suffer defeat in detail. I have hovered around enemy snipers and watched them take out team mate after team mate. All without typing one word. I don't want to ruin someone elses sneakiness or teamwork and in the process ruin there fun.

If you want recon games why not have some people sign up for recon. They could come on as 'observers' and recon for their team. If observers can speak that is, I am not sure about that. That way, people who want recon in there games can have that advantage but pay for it by losing a little firepower in the field.

BTW all of this flaming going on over 'realism' is kind of pointless. Sure the goal is to make this as realistic as possible, but in the faq I read somewhere that certain aspects of realism HAVE to be sacrificed to keep GAMEPLAY fun. It is just a game after all.

err, new topic pliz

Thought this one had been covered here, here, and, well, all over the shop really. It's even got it's own book of condolences here:) - and like Mr. Pickle said, nothing's set in stone... all we can do about it at the moment is wind each other up, which isn't My Idea Of Fun.

Don 't blame me- I didn't do it

Real solutions?

For most peoples concerns, it looks like modifying the chat won't fix anything really, rather than the truly obvious ghost-recon messages over a general chat.

Mdifying chat listen permissions only removes the lines of communication from the Infiltration software. People can still use second party chats, instant messaging, voice communication, the telephone, or in some cases just lean over and get their messages across.

Another option is to restrict ghost movement, either tied to teh location of their death, riding behind the shoulder of a teammate, or some fixed position elsewhere. Efficacy of Ghosting is removed, which will be unfortunate if mandatory but quite reasonable as a server side option.

Personally, given all the hubbub about ghost recon, I would gladly trade it for something telling me who killed me, and perhaps turning my view to the direction of the attack for 4-5 seconds until all goes to black.

It's hard enough as it is to figure out what happened and from who. How am I going to shake my fist at them and go "Oooh you....! Next time!" :D

OK...I may be on the team, and what the team ultimately decides AS a team, will be final. So what will I put forth when we all discuss this? Here is my recommendation:

Living can talk to the living. The dead talk to no one. Why? Two reasons. There is nothing remotely realistic in my opinion, about floating around after ones death, and telling the comrades I left behind that some dude is waiting around the corner with a great big piece of ambush pie.

The ONLY reason that I don't think the dead should be able to talk to the other dead, is because I hate the flame wars and immature culture that is created by having such a forum in-game. (Besides the cheating, this is the SINGLE worst thing about CS for me.)

Now keep in mind. That is only this Pickles opinion, and the same opinion that I will put forth to the rest of the team. But one thing about Sentry Studios...the best thing will be implemented, of this I have no doubt.

hey buddy... you know i love your work but i completly disagree... it's ahlf of the fun to be on a server and talk with other while wating for others. if you can't do this it's getting too boring.

yes i know on several servers people don't talk, they just flame (stupid children) but this is not on most servers. on most servers you use it to help newbies and you use it to have fun.

that's my experience not only our TO and Inf servers, there are a LOT out there where people are just playing for fun.

Well, I agree that things can get kinda boring after death in a game...but I NEVER play on CS servers (NEVER!!!) where people have nice mature things to say between rounds. Never dude! Now, I know that Inf attacts a higher class of player, and my concerns may be overblown when considering that, but I just don't want to see our community deteriorate like that. I like the respect the Inf community has built, and want to see it stay.
