I don't care what people say. I still haven't got sick of that single player game. Get lost Half Life, bye bye Quake & Quake II... Unreal rocks! I would like to experience it for the first time again though.

UT & Q3 rock too but they can hardly be called single player.

The single player game always will be cool. I can see myself sitting down to play it even a few years from now and still having fun.

Is there any kind of release date for Unreal 2?

Hellscrag, how many of the user made single player maps have you played? Which ones would you recommend? I used to play some of them but haven't did any for a very long time and am ready to try a few now.

These are the ones that have stood out to me. I may download the StrangeWorld series some time.

And god damnit, Unreal 2 better have elite single player and coop, but for some reason I doubt coop play will be there.

I largely agree. Single player Unreal is still one of the visually most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had. The Temple of Chizra alone already makes the game a classic. Yeah, get lost, Half-Life.

I doubt Coop will be there too.
It wasn't properly implemented in Return to Na Pali and that was developed by the same people.

Singel player, the ultimate aventure if played in unreal mode.
standing there, not much weaponry, no health
in sight, and LOTS of enemies.
I shiver cause the andrenalin makes me shake
truly the game of the mellenium.

And yeah I love Unreal difficulty too... *decides to play Return to Na Pali on Unreal skill again, at least right after he has completed his current game of ordinary Unreal on Unreal skill at which he just got killed right at the top of the Sunspire and has to do it again, aaargh*

I can totally relate to the continuing enjoyment of UNREAL. I must have played complete games on varying skill levels at least a dozen times including UNREAL skill level. I find myself still humming the soundtrack from time to time. I haven't played the original in a few months since I've recently turned into an on-line UT junkie, but I think it's getting time again to wake up on the Vortex-Rikers and fight my way off the planet.

I am happy to see that there are people still playing Unreal... that not everyone has given up on it since UT came out.

UT is great which is why I run an UT clan, but it's just not Unreal. Unreal single player rocks /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif.

I'm with you guys here. Singleplayer just has that extra bit of class.

It really burns me to see all these multiplayer-only games being released... Sure, they're fun to play for a while, but to date, I can't say that they've given me many memorable experiences (compared to SP anyway).

Like you said Hellscrag, I wish I could play through Unreal again as though it was the first time.
Hell, I wish I could do that to help my mapping. Whilst making the Tower of Shrakith'a, I was constantly attempting the same kind of thing... not as easy as I thought it would be.

Anyway, just wanted to let you guys know that there are still a few mappers who are on your side. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Thanks for the compliments. Although I thought Shrakith'a had an entirely different feel than Unreal. That was the aim anyway...

Cant wait to try some of these new sp maps. There havent been any new ones specifically for UT yet has there?

An Eversmoking CTF map? That would look cool, for sure.

Anyhow, I'm thinking that most mappers /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif would prefer to try something new. ATM, I'm too busy working with Zen Tao Interacive on Extreme Wing Chun VR (http://www.voodooextreme.com/games/interviews/alexr.html) (click on that to see an interview about it), plus I'm already working on a ctf map. Someone might still be willing to help... if you're serious about it, post something in the Nalicity forums. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Heh, no prob Hellscrag. I'm glad you thought Shrakith'a came close to Unreal in that department. Shrak was my first attempt at mapping, so maybe next time I'll go one better /~unreal/ubb/html/wink.gif.

More importantly, I hope Unreal2 goes one better.

The Nali with the tray - that was v. cool.

Wolf Blackstar: Where would you put the flags in CTF-Eversmoking? Seems to me that the map is split into several portions; the start area, the bell tower, the dungeons, the monastery, the cemetary & crypt, the force field control room, the cave, and the generator. It would be difficult to make it play logically. Any ideas?

I agree. I'll never forget the first time I played Unreal. I was amazed by the graphics (even thought it ran at 30 fps /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif) and it was just generally fun to play. It doesn't beat Half-Life though...but I can't wait 'till Unreal 2 comes out.

Played a demo of HL. Never impressed me that much. I guess it's all down to your personal tastes. I enjoyed exploring the beautiful colourful Unreal world. Didn't like the MotherShip ending though, I hope they don't make the same mistake in U2.

Mind you the MotherShip could have been great if it was atmospherically built... with more interesting architecture, texturing and lighting, maybe even with windows to the outside or something. And if it had been even slightly shorter. It was too drawn out and generic. We can but hope.

speaking about unreal 2...what I've heard about it doesn't make me too excited..correct me if I'm wrong but

- it's being developed by a third party, the people who made the return to na pali mission pack

- It will use the same engine as Unreal and UT..the unreal engine unmodified

So won't Unreal 2 basically just be a mission pack??...I mean what makes it worthy of the title Unreal 2...sure it will have new weapons, monsters and levels but without a new game engine what makes it any different from a typical add-on?

I agree with FenderTX. I really wish that Epic would have taken the job and made a new engine that would use larger textures and higher poly counts. The new Voodoo Cards coming out will support 2040x2040 textures. Unreal only uses 256x256.
