ive noticed that a TON of you guys want infiltration to make a key that opens doors, picks up weapons etc....unfortunately this CAN"T be done without TOTALLY redoign the entire unreal engine...

if youve ever opened the editor you will notice that all actors, movers, etc are all triggered by being stepped on or being shot or whatever.

now of course i could be wrong....but im pretty sure it can't be done

Unreal (1) has a unmapped "grab" command, which actually lets you pick up and carry around the few books that were in the singleplayer maps.

jonny, jonny, jonny...like he said, unreal 1 came with a 'grab' key that can be used to trigger movers. it's just that it is almost never used for some reason. the new inf maps are supposed to make extensive use of the grab key as you should have heard

Some Key=Grab

Thats what you add to you user.ini for activational movers, actors etc. This is different for picking up weapons, items, etc, that does requires some beppo magic.

And from what I understand, the magic has already been performed. :) I heard from a certain, un-named (raekwon) mapper, that he has implemented into his map that I won't name because it might give away his identity (sicily) the ability to turn lights on and off with a light switch using a "grab" key, as well as opening doors and such with said key.

The "grab" key is in there, but if you're talking picking items up, the Inf team has already designed a superior system.
From the (outdated, of course)Roadmap: "When you run up to and stand over these items, what you are standing on will appear in your HUD along with "it's weight/your available weight", preceded by a number. Simply press the cooresponding number to pick the item up. If the item is a weapon you already have, you will simply strip the clip and leave the weapon."
A simple, yet proven method.

Indiana. Kill me please.
I noticed in DM-INF-Azteca you can pick up books off the shelf in the museum.

Have you no faith in the Unreal engine? Trust me, just about anything you guys can think of can be implemented by a good coder.

No! No! He's right! It's true! The Unreal engine can't take it! Deus Ex with it's extended pick up/manipulate/inventory system was a big fat lie!

Come on JB, it's bad enough you're a stinking DE lover ;)

It is also possible to create custom brushes. That is how some of the first vehicles for UT worked. In this way you could create all kinds of things, like breakable light brushes (ala Goldeneye N64) among other things.

These custom brushes behave like normal brushes only they must be added via command line.

The Unreal Engine is extremely powerful in its customizability and extensibility.

We English are the masters of sarcasm (that wasn't sarcasm, or was it? :))

But back on topic, the pickup system sounds great, will a time be implemented to pick up items? Or will they just magicly appear in your inventory.

I can't wait for the on-line code for this game..
