ok, the F.A.Q. disapoints me. i have 1 problem, and it fits one of the FAQ's perfectly: Q:when i attempt to start up INF with the launcher, the game starts to load, then it crashes. What do i do?
A: you may have a file in your UT folder called "iSoldier.int". if you have it, remove it.

well, gosh darnet, i dont freaking have it!!! so what do i do now???? huh?? WHAT!!!??? the FAQ is pretty good, but that particular answer is not complete. the way is says is shows that some people may not have it, so there for they need to tell you what to do if you do not have it...

soooooo, has anybody experienced the game crashing like that? if you have, tell me please...has anybody gotten around the problem? TELL ME PLEEEEEASE HOW TO GET AROUND IT!!! PLZ PLZ PLZ PLZ ok ok uh thanks

i replied to your thread in general, but i'll do it again here to try and keep the discussion where it belongs.

first thing we need to know, what kind of crash? when does it crash? are you able to actually start INF but it crashes when you start a map, does it crash while loading, or does it not even load but just immediately quitting with a "beep"

do you get an error message? if so what is it?

what video card do you have? how much ram?

are you starting INF from within UT(won't work this way) or are you using the separate mac launcher program like you're supposed to? the mac launcher also came with 3 different .ini files, did you rename the proper one and put it in your UT folder?

i double click the "Mac Launcher.zip" which is in my Mac INF Launcher folder. once i double click that, it begins to start up the exact same way it does to play normal UT. After loading for a short time, it disappears, and an alert pops up stating

"UT unexpectadly quit because of error #2 (sometimes #11). You should save any opened files and restart your computor."

I am almost positive that I use ATI Rage 128 Accelerator Card. (i think that because when i installed UT it says "The optimal Accelerator Card has been chosen for you ((they chose Rage, or maybe it was Rave...i dont know)). If you would like to change it...blah blah blah")
I have an iMac G3, with 32mb built in. I checked with an iMac tech support guy and he said yes i do have enough memory for UT. My game has almost always worked pretty well. It's not perfect, i mean its kind of sketchy sometimes.

Yes i use the mac launcher. when it tells you to rename the file, i chose the Rave one. But now i am confused!!! i thought they meant "Rage" aargh  :( :(

1. You have to unzip that "Mac Launcher.zip" file. StuffIt expander 6.0 should work (earlier versions won't). Just open it w/ StuffIt 6.0 (get it at www.aladdinsys.com (http://www.aladdinsys.com)), then move the "Infiltration" launcher application you get (the one w/ the nifty "U" icon) to your main UT folder. It should work from there.

2. If you have one of the original iMacs, you have a RagePro card. If it's a newer iMac, it's a Rage 128. Either way it runs in Rave mode, so you should have chosen the "INF28.ini_R" ini file in the "Mac ini Files" folder & put it in the general UT folder (and don't forget to rename it to simply "INF28.ini" or you'll have problems).

Don't confuse "Rage" with "Rave", they're totally different. "Rage" is just the name of your ATI graphics card (e.g. Rage Pro or Rage 128). "Rave" is the 3-D acceleration mode that those cards use by default in Macs. They can also run in OpenGL mode when that is supported by a game (actually the Rage 128 cards run mainly in OpenGL, though they also run in Rave of course).

3. You badly need to get more RAM if you want to play INF with any kind of decent frame rates. 32 MB may be enough for UT, but you'll be crawling on your knees running INF 2.8x with that. I assume you're running UT in virtual memory. With only 32 MB RAM you'll be accessing your hard drive so much I'm afraid INF may prove to be unplayable.

I believe you can get at least another 32 MB of RAM for under $50 these days. Believe me, that's the best investment you can make at this point. You will notice a world of difference, especially in INF.

Good luck...
