Heres the problem, every game maker is going for the best looking game!

But when you have a $200 Budget and $20 grand in med bills you cant afford to buy a 1.4 GHZ computer!! Heck i have a 400 MHZ which i had to sell my N-64 to buy!!!

At least with PS2 and X-box (All systems) you dont have to worry about Processer,video card, MB's and all that!!

Look at Red Faction! It is suppose to have a Requirment of 400 MHZ yet a PS2 which has a 200 mhz processer is going to run it(Even though its a little waterd down!!

ISNT THERE anywhere where you can get a REAL computer with a REAL processer that lets you play REAL games for REALLY cheap???????

You'd rather that developers tailored every game for the lowest common denominator? PCs are constantly evolving. If you can't keep up, maybe you should quit the race.

Dont take this the wrong way but people like you dont understand what it is like to live on $200 a week. All i need is $300 and i can get a bare bones 700 mhz computer. Of course ill thrown all my parts in it!

I dont want them to taylor anything. I think certain people should get help with getting a new computer not a run-a-round like "Well you let yourself become in debt " or " Maybe you should quit the race".

People care more about money and themselves more then they care about people less fortuante.

I don't understand what it's like? I hate to burst your bubble, but you make more money than I do. I'm lucky to make $600 each month, and $365 of that has to go towards car insurance, car payments, medical insurance, cable bills, etc, with the rest put aside for college tuition. If I'm really lucky, I'll have around a $75-100 of spending money left over each month, and some of that also has to go towards gas and food. Yet somehow, I've managed to not only put togther a decent rig and keep upgrading it, but to stay out of debt as well.

How old are you?

My parents make $500 a week and have $200-$300 left. I get none(Which i dont care)..
Im 19, disabled and no one will hire me so i make about $200 a year doing a one time job of delivering phone books.

I'm 19. The only support my parents give me is allowing me to live in their basement for free. Other than that, I have to buy everything myself (food, furniture, equipment, etc).

EDIT: If you want a nice computer, there are quite a few places that are willing to sell you a top-of-the-line model for real cheap (sometimes free) so long as you use a particular internet service, or something. Failing that, there a plenty of great discounts online. I got my near top-of-the-line proccessor (PIII 700) for only $150, and that was almost 6 months ago, so the price has probably dropped quite a bit. Give Price Watch (http://www.pricewatch.com) a look. They usually have a ton of hot deals lined up. Just be sure you check out each company with Reseller Ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com) so as to make sure you don't get screwed over.

If you are disabled try the government (state or fed) a friend of mine, who is severely dyslexic got a G3 on behalf of his resident state (he is in school, though, and does require a computer that can take dictation as he can't type to save his life, which I dont think has anything to do with his dyslexia j/k).

1) of course they do, because if they didn't others would complain that they've spent their money on something which wasn't used ...

2) as games take about 2-3 years to complete they have to make an educated guess at what an acceptable configuration would be at that time

Who says you NEED a 1.4 GHz PC anyway ?
At the time you buy that pc it's already outdated.

Because they are specialist machines they don't need the processing power in their CPU to do the same stuff they have specialised chips for sound and stuff. The software can speak directly to the hardware, without checking stuff twice and going through 'dozens' of layers which the pc-version has to do. Those things really slow the execution of a program down.

Short answer ? No, if you want to play top of the line games, you've got to have a state of the art system. Those are the facts.

You are not the only one who would like to see an end to this neverending race for bigger, better & faster pc's. But unless everyone stops buying new pc's and Microsoft spends some time optimizing code instead of adding useless features that is never going to happen.

One thing I can tell you :
If you want a new pc, avoid the Intel CPU's.
Because they cost almost twice as much as the equivalent from AMD. (At least here in the Netherlands)

// 200$ a week ?
Phew, reading this makes me feel very fortunate indeed ...
I really shouldn't complain about prices.
Or that 'expensive' PS2

It is called saving your money.Whether a dollar a day, 25$ a week, or 100$ a month.Make little sacrifices ; one less slurpee from your local convenient store.The effort will be satisfying.
I save for a month to get my TNT video card and then had to wait two weeks to get it on back order...

//good luck
