what about an extra mod 4 infiltration where u have 2 buy your weapons and u can carry only a handgun and a primary gun at once.. like in counterstrike?

Holy $#@!. How many people are going to ask this before they either notice the "New to Infiltration? Make sure to read the roadmap for answers to nearly all of your questions!" with the roadmap kindly being linked to a place where all this stuff comes up. At least have the decency to read through old posts. I can understand missing something obscure in the road map, I do it all the time (like that lying prone part, I skipped right over that) but if you actually pay attention to the thing and realise that your suggestion to make CS for UT is...

ah Christ... never mind. This would belong in the o/t forum for all my rants, raves, and disgusts having to due with the message board.

dose everybody now understand what i'm talking about?

(like yall didn't already /infopop/emoticons\icon_wink.gif

just more and more mofo dumb questions the closer a new version get's out... sigh, i kinda dread 3.0 comming out for having to sift through this stuff at the highest of the INF forum=)
(if they we're to stop everything at 3.0, which we know wont happen heh=)

Hahahahahhahahahahahah!!!!

Mojo you...you... Hahahahahahaha!
Ehm. sorry. I just forsaw this happening.

Someone ends a post with "...like in counterstrike." And it pushes one of us over the edge, because we've hit our limit.

We're all going to lose our minds if you don't learn to accept that this stuff is going to continue to happen.

Ehm...

OK reaper, read through the roadmap and then scan through some of the messages in the suggestions forum. This will give you an idea of where the mod stands, and where it is heading. Then try back again with a few suggestions, if you still like what you see. Mojo, is reacting to the fact that we get a lot of similar posts from people who don't read through some of the information on the site before posting. You can understand that it can get a little annoying after a while. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

p.s. Try to never again end a post with "...like in counterstrike." That tends to cause an extra amount of tension around here.

I swear to God, the following scenario will happen one day:

"So what's the triage prognosis, EMT?"

"Well officer, it appears massive head trauma from hitting the computer desk fast, smashing his temple in. See the blood coming out of his nose? It appears he had some sort of seizure and passed out. Subject DOA."

"Ah, that's a damn shame... I wonder if he had a heart attack while looking at pornography or something. I've heard of it happening"

*Officer turns off screen saver*

"Hmm... What's this?..."

quote:
I tink u should make ifniltration like counter striek wheer u have to buy wepons and u can shoot thru walls nad u r a tererist and u have to figth cunter tererists to win and u can kill hosteges and rob banks and put ur hed up ur ass. Taht would be 2 l33t!!! Cool mod, I played countre striek at my freind Jerry's house and I treid to install it but Haflife wouldn't install on windows 3.1 on my 4866, so Jerry took the cd back and now i have a penitum 500 and 64 ram on windows 99 (because I bought it in 1999) and Jerry's mom won't let me talk to him anymoer because I was looking at hsi sister naeked and I set thier curtains on fire, so I am giong to buy unreal turnamint when my parents give me moer of my allowence. I can't wait to play counter striek again! thanx![/quote]

"What the hell? What do you think this means, officer?"

"I don't know, maybe some sort of fanatical gun-loving terrorist cult?"

"Maybe..."

...

...

..so it's like Counter-Strike?

Boy, some of you really got a weird kind of fantasy..
I don't think anyone of us will die because of a CS-Cult-Follower will post one more of these '..make it like counterstrike..'-posts. After all, what do they want to tell us? CS on HL sucks, because you only can play it online - so many of these CS fanatics get slaughtered because they are - to say it friendly - bad. They just are searching for a mod for UT because a bot on an easy level won't finish them off in two secs - probably five or six..
Please no 'Don't compare mods..'-replies, cause this is my private opinion, and after all I'd be allowed to post it.

anything you do can get you killed, including doing nothing

Mr. T

Actually in my experience, it's not accurate to make that claim. In fact it's hard to make any claim at all on who is good or bad in that particular online multiplayer game, or with many online multiplayer games. There are exceptions of course. One thing is for sure, you can't judge someone soley based on records or how often they get slaughtered, if you will, and I'll explain why.

First of all, records are related far too closely to ping. If you have a good connection, you have a good record. That is a pretty safe assumption, and it can have almost nothing to do with player skill. However, there are exceptions. Sometimes someone with a poor connection, will achieve a good record. Other times, someone with a good connection will achieve a poor record.

In my experience, and I have a poor connection, sometimes I'll achieve a very good record and other times I'll achieve a very poor record. Well, you say, that's because you were playing with different levels of competition concerning ping rates. Or you must have been on a highly skilled team when you were doing well, and on a poorly skilled team when you were doing bad. Or you were getting lagged out of existence a lot. Or you have a pentium II with a tnt video card and everyone else had a pentium III with a GeForce, or visa versa. And sometimes all these factors combine to make it feel like you seem to never miss at times, and other times it seems like you're using rubber bullets, and you have a bullet magnet on your forehead. To this I'd reply "Yes, you are correct on all accounts."

My point is, there are way too many factors involved to determine who is good or bad based on the records achieved in few played games. Now if you see someone jumping off a cliff, or running headlong into certain death every round, that's one of the exceptions.

If you could compile everyone's lifetime stats, compare them with your average ping achieved in each game, factoring in the averege ping of everyone you competed against, and who you competed with, and also factor in team wins and losses, and how often you died by getting lagged out of existence, and also how many kills you achieve on those who get lagged out of existence. Calculate in a stat that shows the avering ping of those you actually killed and the ping of those who actually killed you. Combine all this on how many times based on pure stupidity you commit suicide, then perhaps it would be possible to make a somewhat valid claim one way or the other concerning the average player skill level.

And then, you could take this somewhat valid claim that a certain individual is "bad" at CS, and extrapolate that further to determine that the reason they come over to this forum and make suggestions that end with "like in counterstrike", is because they are poorly skilled in the online multiplayer format and would like to play the same game in a single player format that would allow them to configure bots to a lesser skilled level than the human players they regularly compete against, thus allowing them to obtain greater enjoyment from the game. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

nope, unrealistic. in real life, you have to count your bullets remaining, so you will in in inf as well.

You mean there is no little man couting the bullets? Well, Mr.Lost, then tell my who lifts the bullet into the gun, hm? And who throws it away. If these little men can do that, why not hire a 3rd guy that counts the bullets.

whoa, I always wondered how it worked /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif This board seams to be getting trippier everyday.

But I guess reaper made a valid question when he asked if there will be a new HUD in 2.8. Hope this hasn't been asked before, don't want to be embarrassed and be confused with a newbie (God, I hate that word: Newbie)

and... what's with ... all the... periods..., Reaper...?

Note:
bad=person gets shot every two secs with a zero ping.
You shouldn't take everything I say literally; sometimes I just get too counterstriked in this forum, though it doesn't show in the same way like some others..
I played Q2 for a while online, and found out, that I wasn't too bad, but surely not the best - quite indipendent from ping rate.
whatever..

now to something competely different:
(*boom*)
The bullets are lift into the chamber by a sophisticated mechanical system, developped by ingenious engineers - the 'little men'-Story is not in use since WW2..

BTW:
Is it that hard to type in 'you' unstead of 'u' and 'for' instead of '4'..?

I'm sorry Snakeye. I just started typing and I couldn't stop.

But u and 4 is 1/3 less keystrokes. That's an incredible boost in efficiency in my view. To become the ultimate virtual killing machines we all strive to be in these games, we must realize that very keystroke is vitally important.

-Lost-
5th Apr 2000, 02:46 PM
but more keystrokes means more key-pushing-power for running around virtually killing people ;-)

More keystrokes also equals higher chance that other boardmembers won't think you have an IQ of 8 (like the average CT player).

Resocluvar...who?

Mr. T
6th Apr 2000, 12:43 AM
Well, if that's true, then why didn't you say Intelligence Quotient?

[This message has been edited by Mr. T (edited 04-05-2000).]

Bad.Mojo
6th Apr 2000, 01:03 AM
Because "intelligence quotient" isn't supposed to have capital letter in it, most likely. =)

Mr. T
6th Apr 2000, 03:03 AM
But the capital letters allow for that extra couple of SHIFT button keystrokes to boost your apparent Intelligence Quotient even further. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

See? Someone will read this and say "Wow, Mr. T is a genious! Look at all those keystrokes he used!"

hunchback

In addition to, "Look how he misspelled 'genius'!"

Yes, I'm an asshole. /infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

hunchback
6th Apr 2000, 03:36 AM
Of course, now that I think about it some more, I guess it just comes down to whether the IQ bonus of making the word longer by adding an 'o' to it outweighs the IQ penalty of misspelling it.

Mr. T, the truth is, I'm a recovering CounterStrike player...I was captured by the evil collection of counterstrike players, known as the CTorg...

"We are the CTorg,
You will be ASSimilated(huh huh! he said ass!)
Resistunce if footile..frutile.. flootile...
Ah forget it"

Since the CTorg's intelligence is centered in their rear end, their version of the borg queen is essentially known as the
"Bitch Ass". Every time we thought we killed the Bitch Ass, another Bitch Ass would appear and take over. Watch yourself, or the CTorg will ASSimilate you!

hmm,
I really like abbreviations, but they should have sense. IQ is commonly known and easily understandable under moust conditions.
The 4 and u story is a bit different, especially if you're not used to English - me for example; in Austria we talk German.
T42 is therefore a very misunderstandable term. Could be a tank, or an invitation to drink tea with another person..
Any kind of military abbrev. is something I surely understand..
like HARM, SLAP, SLAM, SAM, MBT, IFV, ICV, APC, APSFDS, APHEIT, F/A-18C etc..

SPECTER UNCLE KAOS!

Mr. T
6th Apr 2000, 03:51 PM
Well, working in government contracting for the past four years has taught me to utterly despise abbreviations/acronyms at first.
Do I use them? Yes.
Do I accept them? Yes.
Do I know what they all stand for? Hell no.
Do I enjoy being utterly confused during 90% of the conversations I partake in, for the first two years of employment? No.
Do I enjoy being utterly confused during 50% of the conversations I partake in, for the next two years of employment? No.
Do I think using them makes you appear to have a higher/lower intelligence quotient? No.
Do I think that it makes an individual appear more Knowledgeable about a certian area being discussed? Not by itself.
Do I think it's ridiculous that people expect you to understand a single sentence they are blabbering to you, when they are using abbreviations for every other word they say, especially when they know perfectly well you are incapable of decifering these acronyms, due to the fact that you have approximately zero experience using them? Yes.
Is this annoying you? Probably.
