Coronas/Muzzle flashes w/software rendering

Does anyone know of a way to have coronas and muzzle flashes appear using software rendering in UT? I tried to address this question in another thread I created but it mysteriously disappeared! I wonder where it went...? Anyways, there's the question. Got an answer?

Try turning on 'weapons flash' in the prefrences. I THINK that may be related, though it does somehting rather different in reg. UT.
