View Full Version : Servers, Change Your Skins

For whatever reason, a lot of servers (including SOBServers) are running the dark green skin for red with a green camo skin for blue. They are indistinguishable from a distance. What was wrong with the desert camo and green camo skin setup?

I completely agree with you, especialy in sicily-night when someone is right in front of you, you cant tell wether it is a friend or a foe.
there are also servers(german ones, I think) that run the russia spetnatz(?) and german outfits, except for the shoulderpatches, thei're also the same.

Yeah, I was on a server that the skin layout lead to an incredible amount of TKing, especially on Cuban Dawn, because our split team would meet again from different directions. But the desert/green combo is not the best, because the desert receives NO benefit from local camoflage. May as well be wearing orange hunting vests. Perhaps a different standard could be chosen.

How about a feature that desicnates skins to a map?

One thing that I hate is joining a server, playing Kosovo, and I'm arctic skin, and the other guys are black.

Just for realism[camoflage] and for the sake of game balance, pls, team, include this feature.

1.Map specific skins are needed.

2.Tking ruins the atmosphere of the game.

3.Shadows make it hard to differentiate between closely matched skins .

Desert camo on Siberia or Installation just makes me a boggle a bit, whether wearing it or not. There's a Yemen map out there that it would be great for, and it works well with Sicily during the day. Any night map these foolish camos apparently are woven with a fluorescent polymer fiber, it's a real pain.

As for camo's being similar, that's part of life I'll bet.. who would want to be the fools in Artic camo running aroudn the woods at night, just 'cause they knew the other guys were wearing their woodland camo?

Dress for the occasion, folks.

I suggest those two skins... Gray and Woodland or Gray and german. Dont use the black... comes out to greenish!

I found them to work nicely offline.

By any meens... dont use the germanF and woodland like I saw on a server yesterday!!!! ARG

I would like to see more games that weren't Black vs. Woodland and Black vs. Russian T. Now that I think about it, there are too many servers running the Black skin...

i thought in real life, it is not out of the question for different armies to wear similar clothes...i know it makes it hard to kill guys at a distance, but thats REAL! hell...is it not possible that enemies have captured men and taken their uniforms to play as double spies?

i think that would be great..being able to choose your own uniform...it would make everyone pay attention to who they are firing at before they just open up...although im guilty of doing it from time to time

personally i like the similar skis setups, i think it promotes team work and strategy, it makes you think more instead of blindly firing at anything that moves. sure i've gotten TK'ed because of it a couple times, and a couple times i've hesitated firing at an enemy because i wasn't sure if he was friend or foe and then gotten killed because of it but, well, too bad, that's life. it's not the servers fault, i just need to improve my own cognitive recognition skills and judgement.

if you want different skins, then find and play on a server that runs different skins. and i'll keep playing on the servers that run similar skins.

i remember playing 2.75 online and it seemed every server ran Black vs. Arctic. now that was a nightmare. of course we didn't have any snow maps then...

i pity the fool who don't eat my cereal!

Map specific skins would the the optimal choice. If, of course, this is possible. This is what a team would do for each individual mission anyway. Can't go from the jungle to urban in real life without changing camo.

I personally, (although it is hard if you are not paying attention) like the Black Skin vs. The Woodland, at least its FAIR to both side, if you have 1 brighter than the other then all you get is complaing that the skin is too easy to see.

Maybe the solution is a very dark brown skin...

but I don't think it will work, NOBODY can ever agree on skins, I think it's impossible...

There'd be a lot less TKing if people actually played as a team, or at least gave some indication as to where they were going to their teammates.

As far as map specific, I agree. The arctic commandoes on every map is really weak, especially since they glow in the dark on most. Arctic camo in the desert?

On the one hand, I agree that having the dark skin and the jungle skin make telling the difference between players tough.

On the other hand, I am not so sure that is a bad idea because people have to pay attention more and it may (I don't really think so) encourage more teamwork).

I played for about 6 hours this weekend, both on my server and on SOBs (which were running excellent, by the way. Nice going SOB dudes). Only on two occasions did I shoot my own teammate and one of those was a reaction to his shooting me. Only once was I shot by a teammate (the aformentioned case).

On my server, I ran with the jungle and the desert skin. That worked very well and it was easy to tell people apart, but on maps like SicilyNight, the desert guys were screwed.

I do like the idea of map-based outfits, but you guys need to remember that, in a desert map, both teams should have desert apparel. It would not be fair to have map-based skins and then force one player to stand out like a sore thumb.

Until a change is made to Infiltration, if any, I think SOB made the right choice. It keeps both teams fairly even, skin-wise. If one stand out in a map, then they both do.

Well, that's my opinion.
