View Full Version : Sniper Rifle in U2: UT's or Unreal's

I say Unreal's "one shot, one kill" style rifle was better than the semi-automatic action in UT. What do YOU think?

I would hope they come up with some new variation (like hold the button longer for a more powerful hit). Is Unreal's really stronger? Seems about the same to me. The scope in UT is nice.
Maybe a more realistic sniper rifle, ala Serpentine, with actual bullets and distance.

Yeah, Unreal's was waaaaaay stronger. One bullet usually resulted in a 50-80 health loss, and head shots were always instant kill. Serpentine's rifle was a good idea, but keep in mind that this is Unreal 2, not Counter-Camp 2.

I don't know if you have read the unreal booklet, but the unreal rifle was supposed to be like the na pali CAR. You even god the fire type in the unreal packages...
It would be cool to have all the cool na pali marines and stuff like that, that would be cool

We know the look is going to be different, and personally I'd like to see something new for the Sniper Rifle.

This is what I'd like to see,Sniper rifle with a faster zoom and maybe somewhat like a monitor screen like you might have seen the US Rangers using for urban warfare,it could also us infered to pick up targets faster. The other change would be that it would use rapid fire when the trigger is held,but I think they'd have to make it less accurate fire the rapid fire just to make it more fair.

i think that a new sniper rifle would be best, less powerfull, but put in the laser targetting. limit the range though, and make it weaker at longer range

Limit the range of a sniper rifle? Kinda defeats the whole point of the gun wouldnt you say.

I'd say it would be better if the fire rate was slower than UT's, kinda like the rail gun in Q3A. So you actually aim rather than hold down the fire button.

Okay, how about a slow fire, Infinite range sniper rifle like Unreal's, but with an infrared target scope and sight beam, so you can see opponents and aim in the dark, but they can't see where its coming from (unless they have IR goggles too).

I agree with Metakill. An infrared scope would be good. Adding some more Deus Ex type features to see whether somebody is using infrared would be really cool

I say use the Unreal 1 main gun with the UT scope & laser sights and skin the whole lot with that cool lookin stuff on the titanium and diamond golem skins from the U4E mod but then again I'm just a small green treefrog

I want the unreal2 sniper rifle to be able to shoot much further (with these outdoor environments) and yes the UT or unreal1 sniper rifle has a distance limit.

Also make it fire slower.

I was also thinking about a scope with build-in heat sensor, NVG and distance-meter.

One more cool thing would be if it had bullets (so it's not a direct hit weapon, but the bullets going so fast that it's almost a direct hit weapon) I don't want this for more realism or anything (keep that in OPF), but I want it because then you can finally shoot through WarpZones with directhit weapons!

Who says the rifle has to shoot bullets, personally I'd like to see a more advanced zoom & rectile and perhaps a condensed plasma stream for a shot; such as the rail in Q3 (except stronger)

Oh, the poor rifle! *snik* :( Taking away the bullets of a rifle is taking away it's dignity. :( A rifle without bullets is not a rifle anymore.

Then it's more like a lasergun or something.

sniper rifle is cool, something a lil different maybe, but its a good equalizer, even though icant use it much being ping challenged...
a laser sight would be cool, you could pin out ppl trying to take aim on you or see it on the wall next to you just before you get head popped!

Who cares about ping? Unreal2 has a single player modus! wouldn't it be cool to snipe birds, skaarj and seagoats?

Sniper rifles need bullets.

The Railgun is more a closer ranged weapon for snap shots, more suited for Quake.

absolutely! was just commenting that i dont get to use it much online cause no one stands still for me! ;)

and i still think itd be cool to see that laser sight pointing on a wall right next to you or thru fog or on a teammates head just before it goes splat! :)

a quantum Sniper Rifle

Very Slow to load!, Very low on ammo, but you can actually take people out from behind the walls, or inside the buildings.

The bullets would phase through barriers!

That would be a cool weapon. The FC runs and makes it back to base, sound the one shoot and boom your head pops out!

One problem I forsee, U2 levels can be huge and open right? well, they better make sniper rifle ammo hard to come by then or the sniper rifle will be overly powerful. A slower rate of fire would be good as well :)

Expect the sniper rifle to be harder to aim with. Standing will cause more movement in the reticle, but crouching allows for more stability. Prone position: not sure if it is or will be implemented.

What most game developers tend to forget is that while looking through a scope, slight movements will cause the image to move rapidly out of sight.

For example, in UT moving the SR while scoped in is slower. But that is not how a scope works. If you scope in on a target, one slight move to the left, right, up or down will cause the target to disappear. Grab a pair of binoculars and you will see what I'm talking about. If you are scoped in, then the mouse sensitivity will increase, instead of decrease.

Sniper rifles will be harder to use and require more skill than the traditional SR.

Yes, you are very right, but I think this is supposed to simulate that you are trying to aim precisely, rather than the normal mouselook, where you need to be able to change directions quickly to save your life.

Anyway, I don't want it to be any harder to aim. Please.:p

Just use a mouse alias to in/decrease mouse sensetivity, as long as they don't remove the console...I hope not, good shooters need consoles! The ~ kind, not the LameCube kind.
Ah well some people say its cheap so maybe they'll remove the console, and people will say there's no weapon balance so they'll remove all the weapons and make only one player class and no multiplayer because some people have bad connections.
I just hope they make the game THEY want to make and not the game Johnny the Whiner wants to make. It seems like a lot of game companies have been scared of giving whiners the short end of the shaft. Hell, as long as U2 is fun...why do we care?

How about a sniper rifle akin to the one in TFC?
You hold pri. fire to power it up, and headshots to alot more damage after powering up 100%....it could even knock off a HWG with all Health and Armor.....

and it has laser sight too! Though it seems to act like a railgun when it hits someone........they turn to giblets.
