View Full Version : How do I create texture packages?

I want to make my own texture packages, but when I import a texture (like when you make a level screenshot) I rebuild the level and playtest it and it says it can't find the imported texture. So I assume there has to be another way to do it.
Also I want to make textures of various sizes. In photoshop I crop pictures down to equal sizes (i.e. 256x256 and 512x512) and I import them and it works, but when I crop a picture down to a non-equal size (i.e. 256x128 or 32x64) they won't import. So how do I do this?
Also how do I create masked textures and procedural textures like fire and water?

Okay, here's what to do:
1. open up an existing, small, texture package.
2. import your own textures into it.
3. delete all the original textures from the packages.
4. save the package UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME (otherwise you will lose the original package, duh).
5. load the newly created package in the editor and it should work.
Your textures should be in a 8 bit .pcx or .bmp format. For some reason .pcx ímported textures don't always show up in the game, so i always use .bmp files.
The textures don't nessecarily have to be square, as long as their witdh and height is a multitude of 16 pixels.
for creating masked texture, just create one where the masked areas are 100% black. When you import them, check the 'masked' box on the dialogue screen.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot. Most of that stuff I was already doing except for one or two of the more important things.
Thanks again.

I would not import into an existing texture group. If for some reason you hit the wrong button your screwed. Just change the package name and then remember to save it when you are done importing.

Ofcourse your suggestion is safer, but creating your own texture packages from scratch doesn't work half of the time, so when you start with an existing package, there's a lot more chance of the textures actually showing up in the game.

I have never had it not work. The only way it wont work is if you dont save it.
