Hi all,

I messed around with the unrealEd when UT first came out...Ive decided to try my hand at it again. Id say Im of an intermediate level and know my way around the editor/principles etc...its just the making the maps thats the hard part :) They never turn out quite how they are pictured in my mind. :D

Actually, Ive never completed a full map...I gave in on my last 'great' creation (an assault-CTF hybrid) becasue for no reason it became plagued by BSP holes. I lost interest after that.

But Ive decided to use the new unreaEd2, however I have a few questions.

Where's the skew facility? Do I have to edit the properties numerically rather than use a button and then do it by eye?

Whats the clipping all about? Im sure I didn't use it way back when. Is this a new feature? Hows/whys it used?

Im also eager to try out the BSP landscape feature...does it work? Or does it just lead to frustration and BSP holes?

Any other features about unrealEd2 I should know about?

Just been searching for stuff about the new editor...the FaceDrag facility looks like a good if experimental way to alter a brush (even skew it)...must go try it.

-You can use the Vertex edit mode (multiple vertices by CTRL+ALT selecting) or the Face drag mode (edit: I see you've already figured it out...) for skewing...

-You define the clipping plane by placing two (2D clipping) or three (3d clipping) clip markers in one of the 2D views.
Select brushes. Then hit Split/Clip selected brushes button. This will clip away a part of your brush(es) which falls on one side (check the little line in the middle) of the plane. If you use splitting it will cut your brush into two pieces.

-The BSP terrain is useful...but it can crash UEd easily. (Keep an eye on the rules of vertex editing. :) )

Wow...looks like Chris is on a posting war path at the moment...only a few more posts and he will have total forum domination. :)

Cheers for the info tho...yeah...the clipping seems a better way than having to mess around with a load of brushes to just cut a part away.

Ive got another question now. :D

Ive made a part of a map and I want to make a copy, rotate it and use it on the other side of the map. in the old editor there was a select all button which I used. It selected everything within the brush and I would just make a copy. How can I mimmick this in the new editor?

And seeing as there are a number of experts out there...have they figured out a way to copy movers? I seem to remember they wouldn't work with the above method in the first editor.

i.e Ive made a multi level elevator in the blue base and I want to copy it to the other side of the map for the red base. Any way of just duplicating it rather than re making it from scratch?

Altho, are there any places where you can get things like tables, chairs, lamps etc. to fill your level with? I know you can get texture packs etc, but what about items? making them yourself is a) hard and b) time consuming ...well, for lazy people like me. :)

Cheers

-You can select stuff by holding down CTRL+ALT and dragging a rectangle around the things you want to select.

-Or for the old brush selector...type into the console ACTOR SELECT INSIDE
