Intersecting/Deintersecting

Okay, basically all you need to know is that intersecting and deintersecting brushes helps make everything line up right. If you place your builder brush overlapping a room in your map and intersect it, you will have a brush that consists of just the overlapped section. If you deintersect it, you will have a brush that consists of just that part of the original brush that was not overlapping the room. If you're connecting two rooms with a hall, you want to deintersect the hallway brush you created, so that your resulting brush will carve out just the area that is outside of both rooms.

Is there a good tutorial on this intersecting and deintersecting stuff? I have made a couple of "trial" maps and they run ok, and I haven't intersected or deintersected anything. What exactly do I need to intersect? Could it be because I have a Athlon 700 with 128 ram that they are running fine?
