Is it just me or the bots seem to have the skills jump so much from "average" to "experienced"? I play bot matches all of the time since I'm testing my maps and all, and I noticed that when the bots are "average", they can't hit sh*t but if I raise their level by one to "experienced", they can hit me from a hundred meters away easy. I want something in between, damn it!!!

Yes they do, but have faith the team has promised the AI will overhauled. Try and find the INFuser.ini R_Type posted and play around the bot settings till you find something your comfortable with.

Also keep in mind the bots can only hit you if they see you. And it appears they are completely deaf and only attack if you are in their field of vision. If a bot is standing with his back to you it wont react til you walk up and literally touch them with your weapon.

The bots seem to have x-ray vision at times, though. Especially in maps where there are multi levels, the bots sometimes look up at the ceiling trying to aim at something, or just look straight down below the floor pointing their guns to the floor. Weird...

Would you might to share your experiences with tweaking the bot-AI?

I already read you were recommending to raise the bot alertness and to decrease the aiming... (in a different thread)

I tried a little, but the results weren't too encouraging. :(

Do you have more detailed knowledge what all these bot abilities mean and how having 31 of each does effect current gameplay of a specific bot?

Would be very kind if you can post your approved settings or good hints... :D

Thanx so far...

My only words of wisdom are "Yes its frustrating."

Basically once you get above Skilled you have to see them first and kill them on the first burst or you'll be in trouble.

They seem to only work on line of sight and are possibly deaf. The X-ray vision may be part of the bug with feet showing through floors.

I changed the behaviour of 10 bots so that there were 2 with each behaviour type. It "seems" the ones set to Normal were usually the last ones alive. Wasn't exactly a scientific test either, so take it with a grain of salt.

You can decrease their accuracy to where they dont instantly kill you at 300m with an AKMSU but then they will miss at 20m with a sniper rifle. Seems the bots have a problem with the scoped aiming system maybe.

Alertness is pretty easy to tweak to a level your comfortable with. I ended up using +0.150000

You can tweak the setting to work with one skill level and it will be too poor for the lower skills and still too good for the higher skills.

Finally I've just decided to go back the original files and play them alone vs a team of 8 Average bots and wait for the new AI code.

Anyway I'm attaching R-Types original InfiltrationUser.ini, you'll have to redo the keys and rename it from txt to ini.

I let you know when I figure out something amazing myself... ;)

Anyway here's what the values are again.

Someone else posted that the standard UT bot is set to Cautious and Camping at max.

All:
Minimum(lowest skill or likelyhood of behavior) value =-1.00000
Maximum value=1.00000
Baseline for UT = 0.00000 except Camping which has a base of -1.00000, the basic UT bot will not camp.

Accuracy and Alertness are in/decreased in increments of 0.05000.

Strafing in increments of 0.25000.

Camping in increments 0.10000

Behaviour:
Normal=0.00000
Aggressive=0.50000
Berserk=1.00000
Cautious=-0.50000
Avoidant=-1.00000

The Accuracy on the bots is screwed. I was testing a loadout on some map the other day, the bots were on Novice, and still they could get me at a 500 metre shot directly up, with an M16 using Iron sights. That shot was almost impossible for a human to do, yet a novice bot did it and hit me within seconds of me looking over the edge of the tower at him.

The Bot accuracy and alertness is so stupidly over the top its a waste of time playing bots.

Yeah, true that. But some of us don't really have choice. I play bot matches to test my maps all of the time.

u can hardly complain then 'cause u really get it!

Inhumane aiming abilities along with inhumane behavior and stupidity (when it comes to tactics)... ;)

Try these setting and let me know what you think.

Bots set to Average. Bot Skills, Accuracy, and Alertness set to 0.200000.

I'm pretty much convinced now that bots can't use scoped rifles. Had one blazing with a SIG/ACOG at about 15ft and it managed to hit everything in the room except me. Even let the poor guy reload and I was only hit once out of 40rds. Most of the bullets were hitting the floor so I'm guessing they can't deal with the scope bob.

Still playing with the values, right now I'm experimenting with these.

Bot=Average
BaseSkill=0.300000
Accuracy=0.2-0.500000
Alertness=0.2-0.400000
Camping=0.0-1.000000

I'm using random values for a little more unpredictability.

The default INF values are:
BaseSkill 0.0
Alertness 0.5
Accuraccy,Camping and Behaviour 0.0, 0.5 or 1.0

Heres my current INFuser.ini, rename .txt to .ini of course and redo the keys to taste:) Make sure the bots are set to Average skill.

I would also suggest not giving them any scoped rifles they just don't seem to be able to hit anything with them.
