Well, Best Buy finally got the television I was looking for in, so I drove down earlier this afternoon and picked one up. It's a Toshiba 20" flat screen stereo television with Component and S-Video inputs in the rear, which makes it just about the perfect television for my gaming needs. For the record, it's replacing my aging RCA 13" monaural television, which didn't even have AV inputs (I had to hook it up to my VCR just to play games on it). Also, since I'm now hooking my PS2 up to my television directly, I can finally watch DVDs on it. You see, my VCR has built-in DVD pirate protection which, since I was running my PS2 through my VCR, was detecting my DVDs as pirated copies and wouldn't play them. You can check out the full specs here.
However, all is not well. Unfortunately, the picture seems to be off center on the right side by about 1/2 an inch on all of my PS2 games, though DVDs and telelvision channels are fine. There's no screen adjustent menu built-in to the television so, unless the games themselves offer it, I just have to put up with a half inch of blackness on the right side of the screen. I fired off an email to both Sony and Toshiba's customer service departments, but who knows how long it'll take them to get back to me? Besides, I doubt there's anything they'll be able to do for me.
