I hope this isn't a incredibly stupid question. :)
Would the speed be playable? I have a pretty quick connection for 56k. He lives a few kilometres away.

Thanks.

Sure, theres no reason why it wouldn't work. But a few suggestions first. I'd reccomend using a small map for your play, nothing too big or it will lag pretty bad

when I had 56k I played 1 on 1 pretty well.. only a few slowdowns.

You won't believe this, but my neighbor who lived next door to me, and I used to play UT all the time, so we ran a 50 foot network cable from our houses and played 100mb/s lan games :)

Thanks for your help Dom - what sort of pings could we expect?

Hmmm... How much would an 1500 foot network cable cost? :)

The max length of Cat 5 cable is 100m.

I couldn't give you an exact number, but when I played 56k one-on-ones the pings ranged from 200 to 500 to 4000.

Our pings were all over the place when I played. And about that network cable. First of all it wasn't 50 feet per-say... I figured 50 feet could convey the fact that it was a very long network cable.

I was kidding about the network cable... Heh, hard to get a sense of sarcasm over a keyboard - thanks Dom.
