Anybody play Icewind Dale or Total Annihilation

Anyway, I was wondering how the music was since the same musician will be doing Unreal 2.

You can listen to some of Jeremy Soule's works here:

I must say I am disappointed. That guy seems to be a writer of cinematic scores and that's not what Unreal should sound like. So don't expect Unreal II to be like the original Unreal. There will be no more "Dusk" and "Dig" scores...we'll be hearing Hollywood orchestras instead. I'm fan of classical music but not in games like Unreal.
What I liked so much about Unreal will not be seen in Unreal II, not even anything slightly similar or even a derivative concept. Unreal was: beautiful, adventure, discovery, surprising, impressind and atmospeheric.
Pity Legend doesn't understand what it was that made Unreal great, they believe the fans of Unreal will love a hybrid of UT and U, but IMHO that's wrong - really wrong!

Yeah, I would love to here songs like 'Dusk' and 'Dig'.
Now that Alex Brandon is at Ion Storm I don't think we will be hearing any of that, it's a real shame.
I am wondering if Unreal II will have any music at all, they may just have atmospheric sounds like birds and the sounds of waterfalls.

That guy, Jeremy Soule, will do the music. I read that over at GameSpot.com.

I guess I should inform you that money in Spanish is spelled dinero not denero...though you ought to know that.
Also, veni, vidi, vici is Latin ( it is said to be a quote by Ceasar (I came, I saw, I was victorious)). Mucho Dinero is Spanish...you have quite a mix of languages there I see.

Not the same artist tho...

Legend made the Unreal Expansion Pack too. That has some very cool tracks by Alex Brandon and Michiel v Bos.

I totally agree with cairey. I would love for Unreal 2 to have similar tracks like "dusk" and "dig"...very moody, the music went perfectly with the environments.

Unreal I music was totally influencing the atmosphere of the game...I would never try playing it with the music turned off...:D

My favorite tracks are: Watcher of the Skies, Dusk/Twillight(remix) Horizon, DIG, Wargate and Bluff Eversmoking Theme...and the Unreal Titletrack is great too.

That music is very l33t... I'm going to have to go and buy WoT now

That Soule guy is very good if indeed he is the mastermind behind the Total Annihilation music. Having him working on Unreal 2 is great indeed

:) it is.. it really is.
I remember coming out of the vortex rikers, with the ambient sounds around me, and the music kicking in... very kewl feeling :)

My favs are hub2, wargate, chizra1, unreal end, music played when you're in terraniux (what's the name again?), bluff eversmoking, newmca7, opal, surfacing, flyby (yes this one rocks! It really fits the intro :) and adds an amazing atmosphere to it) shared dig...
unreal music is fantastic. And indeed, it fits the game.
What song plays when you're in the level where you're on that small boat, and at the end of the river is a mill. Next level is nalicastle.

i absolutely love the Dig track. i'd prefer to have Unreal1 style music in u2 anyday than that orchestarial crap. thats great but doesnt suit the unreal series

Yes, I agree. It sounds too much "space odyssey" and it isn't even original. But we shouldn't judge this guy in advance and if he manages to write a kick ass soundtrack for Unreal II we'll be sad if we have judged him wrong, and we'll seem like totalt idiots too!

i know i know that thought was runnin thro my head before i made the post. lets hope he gets it right.

see i'm not against orchestarial music. see Outcast had music by the Moscow Philamorphic Orchestra and it was fantastic but suited to that game and feel.

well lets see what Jeremy Soule's work looks like. for some reason his name is very familiar to me but i cant place it. hmm. what other games did he make the music for other than those already mentioned :hmm:

:D

I personally think it should be an ambient type soundtrak that changes with the setting, so the music has a very big influence on the mood and atmosphere. I can't think of any examples right now.

I just finished Red Faction. It's a bit too short and it isn't as immersive as HL and Unreal were (perhaps that's because one gets used to this sort of FPS:es after a while) but the music is great. Perhaps RF would have had more atmosphere if I had played it on my stationery PC with surround speakers but instead I played it on my notebook PC with two tiny speakers.
Anyway, play RF and listen to the music. Kind of like HL but I liked it.

My fave U1 tracks: KVision (Terraniux), Bluff Eversmoking, Gateway to NaPali, NaPali, Dusk, Dig, utend (End Sequence), Hey, wait a minute, I like all the trax!!!

Did any1 notice : The mission track for UT contains phrases from the original title theme!!!

By the way, the second composer working on U2 besides Jeremy Soule is Chance Thomas (http://www.hugesound.com/Chance%20Thomas.htm).

There are a few MP3s here:

Chance Thomas seems more promising than Jeremy Soule. Chance Thomas and Jeremy Soule together might be great ingredients for an interesting blend.

We'll wait and see.

The music on this vid has a good, "unreal" feel.

seems to be the kinda music we can expect

IMHO that music is sh*t compared with the original score. The original score had more dark influences and a style I've never heard before. I hope the rest of the music for U2 isn't as cheerful as the in-video song.

For all of you who really liked the original score, this is a link you must check out:

*Remembers trent reznor doing quake.....*

we need more big bands doing our game soundtracts for sure!

no cover songs from there cds and no crappy lyrics, just some nice techno and thrash metal to kill too!

Don't agree with that, Major.
What's important is that the guy holding the job gets the vibe of the game proper and is able to design a sound that is compatible with the game, like Alex Brandon on Unreal or Al Chaney on Daikatana (Ok the game may have been bad, but Chaney's guitar work is incredibly good and its tragic that I can't find any info on him on the net). This is less likely with a big name guy who cannot give as much time to a project.

I doubt it. even tho Kingpin had only three music tracks, Muggs did a great job on them. I loved those three KP tracks. Temple of Boom IV is one of my fav Cds any ways

See what I mean? 3 tracks repeated ad nauseam. Even the coolest tracks begin to jade when you realize thet you're gonna be hearing them for a long long time.
This is where unreal scored over a lot of games in its time which had Redbook audio.
