Ah ya beat me to it. :)

I'm excited that we'll soon have several new screens direct from Infogrames and not scans from a magazine article (although the scans look pretty sweet).

Sheesh I was wondering if anyone actually cared.... No-one wants to comment on U2 pics?

OKAY Y5 when is Planet Unreal getting pics?

It's a race boyo! Yellow5 vs Apache on Voodoo Extreme.
The winner will be declared 133T Webmaster!

Here are some quick notes I jotted off from the PC Gamer article so far:

Q1 2002 Release date
"It's impossible not to stare slack-jawed for a few moments before attempting to process the beauty of what you're witnessing" - Rob Smith

"Unreal II will take the best parts of Unreal and Unreal Tournament," says Legend's studio head Mike Verdu. "We're creating a single-player game with a rich story that surrounds 13 combat missions [25 levels]."

No previous storyline weighing it down. It's an all-new world, and all-new character to play, and an all-new style. While set in the same universe as the first game, Unreal II will introduce five alien races in a story that's designed to be tight-knit.

In a nutshell you're a "Terran Colonial Authority Frontier Marshall" who patrols the ass-end of space in an old scout ship named the Atlantis.

Within the 25 levels you'll be conducting infiltration, search-and-rescue and other missions. "We want to capture the magic of Assault in UT," says Verdu.

Smaller scale battles of four or five monsters at a time, maximum.

AI bots/marines will be used in tactical situations to help out.

12 months left in its development.

Multi-player -- Deathmatch, team DM, Last man standing and CTF, plus a character driven (ala Team Fortress) new mode of play.

Artifacts/runes will be present on the maps

GeForce III optimized with 10 times the number of polygons for particles and characters compared to UT, with typical enemies sporting 3,000-5,000 polys and your crew having 7,000-10,000 polys. The improved terrain and level geometry will push 100 times the polycount of UT. There's also an improved messing system that combined with the new skeletal animation allows for awesome character movement.

So I assume the guy in the mechsuit is the player, and he is toasting the Skaarj?

It's the same sweet pic I saw in the CGW magazine I picked up at the airport today. Here's a bit from the article:

originally from Computer Games World magazine:

You are looking at some of the first images of a game that is high on our list of must-plays. In development for over a year, the technology behind it is capable of enormous outdoor environments and incredibly detailed interiors. The new engine can render 150-200 times as many polygons as their first game, thanks to hardware brushes and improved mesh rendering.

When we first saw this game last year, we were stunned by the ruthless AI that was tearing up the guy running the demo; the enemies fetched reinforcements and deployed intelligently. It seemed to be an even better version of the stellar team AI from Unreal Tournament.

Few details have been released, but we do know that the game will have a strong single-player storyline with an emphasis on scripted evens (like the lights-out Skaarj ambush in the original game). Developer Legend Entertainment (under the supervision of original creators Epic Games) is being closed-mouthed about the plot. The sketches here are of your ship, the Atlantis, and Aida your intelligence officer. With Aida at your side, maybe you won't be fighting alone in Unreal2..

I bought the april issue of cgw magazine because it said "SCOOP! UNREAL2"

It has one page of editorial.

with a screenshot of one bigassed m0f0 using a flamethrower on a skaarj.

An animation of your cohort, Aida, a hot looking leather clad asian looking babe in leathers with tattooes :D
and a sketch of your spaceship, the Atlantis.

I can scan the page later and attach so you can see the images. Here's the article:

hal: I did not ;p

Please Yes! A Pic of Adia please please please!

6th Mar 2001, 06:22 PM
Morety, ya just typed all the same stuff in that I did....the post before.

Ya big goof. :)

I've seen the PC Gamer article. It's the real deal. 5 or so huge pictures and a bunch of little ones. The CGW "scoop" is hype.

All of the sites should get them on the same day according to Infogrames. No race, I've known Robert for a long time and he's a good guy.

ugh, forgot my book in the office :/ I'll have to get it tomorrow.

(Well, it's not like I have time for reading at home ya know ;p)

I know... the magazine wont be in my part of the world for another month or so...
I know PU can't publish shots from it, but I'm hoping someone more anonymous and with less morals might. :)

Okay, fair enough.
Not exciting...... I'll await an ingame pic.

6th Mar 2001, 11:48 PM
There's a nice polygon mesh of her in the PC Gamer article.

er, no there isn't.

7th Mar 2001, 01:39 PM
Yes, there is. Page 15 of PC Gamer. It shows front/side/and (a quite lovely) rear view.

*NOT cgw*...if that's what you're looking at.

It really is a huge difference in the magazines. There's several pages of really good editorial and screenies in PCG. It's like cgw had to throw something on in the middle of their press run or something.

My March PCGamer says, next issue : 22nd March?

Then how did Uncle Leo get a pic from an issue that's yet to come out?

Uncle Leo
7th Mar 2001, 06:41 PM
*I* didn't get the pics from anywhere. Someone somewhere scanned 'em and posted on the Infogrammes UT forum, I saw them (as have thousands of others), and just copied the urls. The wonders of the internet.

7th Mar 2001, 06:52 PM
Ok, thanks

Maybe you were/knew some PC Gamer spy or something...

Btw, isn't it time a game like Unreal2 got hardware T&L only?

7th Mar 2001, 09:56 PM
I figure you'd know for sure..... but, Sam, the pic is there. Maybe I've mistaken a polymesh of her for a nicely rendered drawing.

8th Mar 2001, 12:22 AM
Look at the URL at the bottom of the second pic. That's why the fact that these early pics are out doesn't surprise me at all :)

Sam Brown
8th Mar 2001, 03:40 PM
No, the pic you are looking at of Aida is what we call a "model sheet", it's totally hand drawn. That's what the modelers use to create the character mesh from.

8th Mar 2001, 09:27 PM
Oh cool! Well, i wouldn't know a model sheet from a hole in the ground, so it's good to hear it straight from the source! Anyhow, looks terrific. I think it's safe to say that we'll all be soaking up whatever information you guys release.

Damn, a year's a long time to wait. :)

9th Mar 2001, 12:42 AM
Hey the second pic looks really awsome...if thats the UT2 im getting it, it comes out in bout a year right? ****ing bull**** I want it now you bitch!!!!!!..lol j/k give me my UT2!!

9th Mar 2001, 01:54 AM
That's Unreal 2 not Unreal Tournament 2. Different stuff. But, if you like UT, it's safe to say you'll be blown away by what Legend does with U2.

9th Mar 2001, 04:18 AM
oooh, I got my PCGamer today, and there are some l33t looking screenies in it. (one of them shows a cool looking bird-scorpoin thing, I call him Scorpiebird :P) I also like the sound of the class-based multiplayer, and the creatures that bond together to form bigger ones :)

9th Mar 2001, 01:17 PM
yea wow these look great - i just hope to play aida or a character like her instead of being forced to play a male as usual :> (LISTENING PROGRAMMERS?!?!?!) :>

12th Mar 2001, 04:23 PM
Actually, the article stated that Aida will be in the ship the whole time. Being indoors will apparently let the modelers us a whole bunch of extra polys on her for extra high details. They'd have to do a "lesser" skin of her for character use.

Based on the space suit for humans, you don't get to see who's inside anyway :/ Ah well, I'm sure it'll be all worked out to my satisfaction.
