for online play, (if not Unreal2, then Warfare) I'd like the new engine to make it easy to support custom skins. If I make a cool skin, I'd like everyone to see it, and not be dependent on a server to run it for me...maybe.

You mean like the Quake system?

I think that system is better, but I would like to let you pick a secondary skin. That way if the other player doesnt have you're custom skin, you wont be forced to appear as the default "grunt" skin.

skins AND voices would be nice if you could do that and have the secondary NOT default... :>

I vote no for custom skins, for obvious reasons like camoflaging or, basically, cheaters who'd slap a wall/ground texture onto themselves.

Hence where the Quake style comes in. YOU have the skin, not the server, and unless someone also connecting has the same skin.. they wouldn't see it. They'd see you as the default skin in the game. But this can also be abused by turning off custom skins, and changing your own default skins into a nosehack/etc like in Quake as well. But correct me if I'm wrong. AntiCC can tell if you've modified the original default skins, right?

Also it would be pretty lame to see those nude skins... I live with my family and prefer not to give them the impression that im playing a porn game.

I'm just altogether opposed to the idea of skins in XMP. After all, this game is all about complete balance. Any attempt to detour from that path, be it visual or mechanical, can't be good without thorough testing for fairness throughout all aspects of the game.

I would haft to say yes to an extent, but have content management and checks on it, like the ability to pic from a select few skins, and to add more you need a mutator and/or mod for it.

I think custom skins are cool. just for the fact that they can improve the look of your game and often do. Yeah people can take advantage of it, but people take advantage of loads of things. i.e changing something in your system file so you can see your own teams health bars, yeah that can be easily changed but people could see that as cheating as its an alteration that some people dont have (including myself, partly due to never getting round to doing it since re-installing XMP).

PS - Elessar i like your sig
