I know, this is an Unreal2 forum. There's no warfare forum so get off my case. ;)

So, if the desire is to keep Unreal2 focused on single player...

1) How long will we have to wait for Warfare to come out?

2) Will there be any multiplayer support out of the box for U2 to tide us over 'til it's released, or will we have to depend on the mod community?

heh, I love answering newbie questions. ;)

1) When it's finished. Or speculatively 2nd to 4th quarter 2002.

2) You can count on there being multiplayer support. Legend was responsible for the Unreal Mission Pack, and not only supported DM, but also a few really fun derivatives.

so then

1) about 2-6 months after the release of Unreal 2?

probably the latter... pure speculation, mind you! :D

;) so you're answering questions you don't know the answer to? hehe

I was just trying to figure out the order of things. I'm hoping U2 comes out and has at least got some teamdm for online play until Warfare comes out. I hope they don't wait too long for Warfare :/ I'm a bigtime believer in online play.

Expect a boat load of Unreal 2 news around the middle of March to the middle of April. Until then...mum's the word.

I take it that's when the E3 show is on? Man I'm looking forward to it :D

"I take it" you've already got your bags packed and your plane ticket ready to go to E3 in Las Angeles? How do you people DO IT? I want to be a PuA ;) just so I can get free tickets to E3. Lol, I agree with you, Morety. I'd like to see some multiplaying going on with the release of U2 and the release of UW to follow only half a year behind. Now, is it just me, or does it seem like HAL is keeping some from us. "MUM"

LOL, Wild, I wish! If any admin goes to E3, then it would be QAPete or the other admins. God knows they deserve it. But it would be nice:).

Well, Wild2, I do have a spectacular view from up here in the space station and all....but I have no concrete information about it. But I do scour the web and the RealWorld for information about it. Call it a hunch.

As for multiplayer...I have every reason to believe that there will be a DM, TDM, Co-op and maybe one more type of online play. Legend did a great job with the new stuff they threw in with Unreal:RTNP. And look at WOT fer cryin out loud! :D

TDM would keep me happy until Warfare comes out. I'm sure some mod's will be hitting the internet shortly afterwards too. As long as they don't ignore the netcode like the first unreal did upon release.

I think it's pretty safe to say that the netcode will be fine, as Epic now have the experience behind them to deliver solid netcode. They're no longer a young company with a pretty engine.

Why is it going to take so long for the game to come out. The engine is already up and running. Does it really take them long to make maps? Maybe it does.

They should hire some of us, mappers...:D

Just because the engine is up and running there's probably a load of bugs, and then they have to code stuff such as the weapons, the menus and stuff and they have to get a decent plot :)

TomCom, you are mostly correct. However, the story/plot should already be solid and implemented in their design document. So, the story is done (it should be...). It's the level design, character scripting, voice and sound recording, weapon/character balance and incorporation and bugs that hounds game developers.

Although they should have the level designs written on paper, it is hell to implement it in a game.

sheesh I said "stuff" too much.
like you said, perfecting 25 levels of such a high quality, and including features like scripted events will take some time

OKay lotsa 2c coins....

1) Way back in the Unreal Universe Forums, we were visited by the Sam. At the time we were posting lots of "Wouldn't it be cool if...." type posts. Sam came along and said that was fine, but the Stopry had been pretty tightly decided even before UT was released. I guess he was reacting to fact our ideas were largley based on Na Pali.... lotsa stuff on what to do with Nali and Titans and the like..... which we now know Unreal 2 will NOT visit. A bit of a shame. There's a good game in expanding the world on Nal Pali. Maybe oneday when we get Unreal Online perhaps (I just made that up. It's not a rumour)

2) Pretty Pics vs a Final game. There's been very nice pics of Halo and Black&White and even Duke4 for quite a while. Getting the game up to a standard where you can take some screenshots must be fairly fast. Daikatana had MOVIES available a couple of years before it was released. It's a long way from there to a bug free, detailed, finished game.

3) Unreal 2 and Warfare will be at least a year apart. Otherwise Warfare will eat Unreal 2's sales. Simple.

kick!
