Is it true that when skinning or making level textures you can only have a pallette of 256 colours?
Is there any way to get around this?
Also, anybody know how many polys are in the Deus-Ex characters.

No, 256 color pallete with 0 being the first and 255 being the last,
Deus Ex runs on the Unreal Engine, and a character can have as many polys as you want, or as few.

Erm.. right.. if you were saying no, and then giving a little bit of information that 256 colours actually means 0-255 then fine, but if you werent then wtf?
And Deus Ex, just like UT does have certain constraints on the models. For weapons try and keep then around 350-550 polygons each. For player models try to get as close to 900 polys as possible.. remember that your gonna have a lot of models on screen at once so the drain on the system comes from the models..

256 colours for each texture!
So that's a lot more than 256 colours per level (plus the tints of the lighting).
256 colours is enough when used properly.
