Can't figure out multiplayer setup? Oh that's normal.
Hey, welcome to the mess that dates back to id software's QuakeWorld back in 1996.
So, you say you have no idea what mods are installed on a server and there's no simple way to figure out what those mods are, either?
Well, hey, chin up, bunky. That's just the way things are. Multiplayer isn't SUPPOSED to be easy to use, now is it?
What you really need to do is look for some vague phrases in the server's name which hints at what is installed on that server. Then go over to www.planetquake.com, and do a search for that string of seemingly meaningless letters.
Now, if the server in question has a name that doesn't give you any hints about what mod it is running, and you get those useless "connect failed" or "rejected by server" messages trying to connect to it..... well you're up shit creek without a paddle and there's not much to be done about it. Just try a different server.
Yeah, the whole multiplayer modfile/map setup and install system is a pile of crap, but it looks like no programmer in a position to do something about and make it all simple and self-installing WANTS to do that.
It's hell to figure out what mods and maps you need to play a particular server, but there's not a damn thing you can do except live with it and try to slog your way along trying to get Unreal Tournament working right.
Yes, this also irks me to no end, but of course I can't do anything about this friggin' mess either except complain and hope some Unreal programmer gets off his ass and does something to make this thing easier to use.
So, are we having fun yet?
