Ok Serpico_TC PUF, here's whats going on.

<LI>When I play my map entire sections white out. When I look at it in the Ed nothing is wrong in the 2D views but in the 3D view a jagged section is missing! This is happening all the time. When I rebuild that section its OK. But then another section goes. WHY???!!!

-This is most likely a BSP hole. There isn't anything you can do to stop them, just hope you don't get them. Usually they don't pop up all that much if a complex brush isn't being used. Keep it simple and everything should work fine.

<LI>I'm also getting some white borders around walls, it isn't fatal but looks messy. The walls are all aligned properly so why the white?

-This happens from time to time, never found out what does it. If it ever does it to me, they're usually multi colors, can't help you there. Possibly a lighting problem.

<LI>One other thing. Im getting Hall of Mirror effects when I try to make portals.

-Just got finished fighting this w/ Wanderer. Go to one of your WarpZones and flip the ZonePortal brush that you are using 180 degrees in the Overhead view. Rebuild and hopefully that should fix it. Make sure all the tags are done right, and path nodes are defined. Another thing you could try, on both of the ZonePortals, in the Overhead view, right click on it, go to Orders:Order To Last. That might fix something.

Hope that helps.

First off I want to thank Wanderer, Tanis and Wacky for sorting my trigger probs. Turned out it was user error, again /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

But I have a bigger problem now. When I play my map entire sections white out. When I look at it in the Ed nothing is wrong in the 2D views but in the 3D view a jagged section is missing! This is happening all the time. When I rebuild that section its OK. But then another section goes. WHY???!!!

One other thing. Im getting Hall of Mirror effects when I try to make portals (they work fine tho). Can someone give be a quick guid to portals. The dos and don't. FAQ etc. /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif cheers.

I'm just starting work on attaching actors to moving objects. Wish me luck, my next post will probably be about that /~unreal/ubb/html/smile.gif

Oh while I'm here. How do you make your own textures?

I have no idea. What I tried was this:
Made a texture in Paintshop Pro, saved it as a Bitmap, and then tried to import it from UnrealEd. Didn't do anything, some options came up when I clicked import-but other than that nothing.

So hows it done?

Thanx again.

Oh yeah, well I control the diagonal.

But anyway, enough of that. About the textures...

When you make a bitmap with PSP it MUST BE 256x256 (not a pixel more or less) in 256 colors. The problem happened before to me when I tried to import a 255x256 bitmap. What a bitch that was. But anyway...

After you make the bitmap, click the import button. Name the texture then put it in a package. The package name is what you want the name of the .utx file to be. eg if you put the texture into the package named say ashtrey then the filename would be ashtrey.utx and so on...

Then after you put in all the textures in one package, you should save the package into the textures folder. One thing you SHOULD NOT DO is add stuff to an already existing package. I think this might wreck up the game.

I don't know about those other problems but I could send you a really good tutorial that might help you out with your portals (if you want it that is )
