Hey, my clan has been testing out different real time voice communications in hopes to find one that is a step above the rest. Here is what we've concluded so far..
Teamsound: it sux, terrible sound quality, lots of lag.
BattleCom: poor sound quality, minimal lag, best overall.
Roger Wilco: about the same as B-com but sounds worse.
Game Voice: the best sound quality but if you dont have a top of the line computer it will cause serious slowdown and lag in online gameplay.
The reason I am posting here is b/c I am pretty sure there are a couple more voice progs that we havent used yet. I cant recall the name but I remember one that used a pic of an alien in the advertisements. Anyway, if you know of any other programs out there please let me know so we can test them out, thx.

A bit fancier than Roger Wilco, and without the cross-platform compatibility, but much better voice quality and clarity.

During your test did you find out which one most people have?

Well, based on the number of votes at Cnet on the different software, RW is the most popular with Battlecom second.

Hey guys.
LOOK! I did a forum search!! LOL
Not much info in this thread, though.
Well, it's almost 10 months after this thread was started......
Soooo.......
What are you using NOW??
I'm trying to decide which one I should get. I have RW now, but I'd like something that is FULL-DUPLEX. Is Microsoft's the only one that is? I don't want to us MS's if I can avoid it.

actually the game voice is very good, despite what is said i had no lag on my old computer which was a pretty lame 500 mghz, on my new P4 i have no notice of it at all. the really good things about the game voice are;
you can program it to perform commands based on your voice with different games (UT included) so if you say Rocket Launcher it will pull out your RL for you.
the headset is the best around, i've paid good money for headsets and this one is the most comfortable with the best sound and mic position.
it's pretty cheap, it was about 50 dollars when i got it a year ago, but i saw it yesterday at Software ETC. for 20 dollars, so you get two for the price of one essentially. the only problem is to fully use the software you actually have to buy the thing, you can download a copy but its not nearly as good as the real thing.

RW: really poopy. Bad quality
Teamsound: despite what he said, awesome quality. Almost phone like. Downside is that the server needs to much bandwith, that the hoster can't play, or you need an own TS server
BC: overall best compromise. Not much lag, medium quality
Didn't try Gamevoice
What's more important than the program is a good soundcard and mainly a good headset

8-4-7-2 is right, my GV sounds pretty awful on my new sound card, but sounds great on my SB Live 256.
if you really want a great headphone set and you have a good card, the GV is the way to go.

You might want to try virtual talker. Here is the link

Virtual Talker (VT, for short) is the only full-duplex non-MS app that we could find that gave us the ability to have everybody talk at once (which I don't recommend, btw) and still be heard. It's clear, fast, has a small footprint, nice interface, doesn't take over your system, is fast and easy to setup, and works very well voice-activated with a decent headset mic. We tried all the rest and VT was far and away the best the of the lot for our purposes.

Geez, half the comm. programs I never even heard of. But I've used RW in 2 guilds I used to belong to and I never had a problem with it. Of course, I wasn't too thrilled to later find out that RW had (or still has) spyware in it.
I *hated* Battlecom, but in all fairness I use a dialup connect.
Anyone here use the comm. programs noted above, while using a dial-up connect??
Peace,

My buddy has an actual 28.8 dial-up connection outside of Seattle (he had DSL but bought a home out in the hinterlands and reverted to dial-up). He has no problems with VT. We still communicate both ways, full-duplex, with no audio degredation.
