I have just recieved UT G.O.T.Y edition from Mr postman. Is the patch supplied newer than the 436 one?

Could do with knowing ASAP cos' I'm having teething trouble with freeze-ups.

ThanQ!

436 is the newest patch available.

As for the freezing, can you post some system info?

V436 is the latest version. I thought goty was v432. You can tell your version on the upper right hand corner of the main menu.

Post your system specs. The goty should not cause system freeze ups.

Firstly... thanx for the fast response!! Secondly, I need shot. I never noticed the '436' in the top r/h corner!! lol - I was too keen on getting the thing going he-he.

My system is Duron 800 with Geforce 32mx, 128 RAM - it generally kix ass! It has no probs running UR at full tilt and everything 'switched on'. I've never had one freeze.

The freezes with UT happen anywhere between 3-12 minutes... REALLY PISSING ME OFF - it's such a shweet looking game too... very slik.

All backgroung apps are disabled, and its the latest Geforce driver.

Any other suggies?!

Cheers folks....

What's your sound card and modem? I have the same problem, though it varies in severity. I've narrowed it down to either of the two aforementioned devices.

I'm assuming that you're using D3D. Some people have expressed problems with the D3D in 436. Responding to that, Epic released this seperate file:

http://unreal.epicgames.com/d3ddrv432.zip

Extract this file into your system folder and see if it fixes your lock-ups.

Good Luck.

Thanx for that info... I'll try it just now.

RE- D3D... would you believe I found the Glide works flawlessly - if a bit slower!?!! At least it doesn't freeze though.

Still getting to grips with the UT net-playing posse'.....

Since UnrealTournament was originally designed for either Software or Glide rendering, the latter will almost always be your best bet for a card that supports it. That is, a 3DFx card.

You say you have a Geforce and that you've been using Glide flawlessly?Last time I checked Geforces and Glide didn't exactly work together.

Are you sure you don't mean OpenGL?

Yup - it's OpenGL, and not glide, s'cuse me!

When you say system folder... do you mean the main UT folder, or the actual windows OS folder?

I unzipped it in the UT folder... and the game froze in the first 2 mins.

>>>>>0shadow0<<<<< - I don't think it's the modem, as I've been honing my UT skillz off-line (maps R new 2 me), having been a UR player for a while. My SC doesn't seem to pose any probs either M8. If yur system is similar- try OpenGL?, I dunno why, but it works with me... despite the warnings!!

Thanx bud's.....

Don't worry about the OpenGl/Glide mix-up. I've been known to do it myself.

On my computer my system folder is located at C:\UnrealTournament\System. Just open up your UT folder and you should see a folder titled "System". That is where you want to put the file you downloaded.

If OpenGL works so well for you, then I would recommend downloading the enhanced OpenGL driver that Loki made for UT. Anyone have the link?

Just gonna copy the file there now... standby......

If that doesn't work out for you(and even if it does):

http://www.lokigames.com/~vogel/UT/

This is the OpenGL file that I was talking about. Should give you better performance than D3D and lets you use the S3TC textures that are on the second disc(believe me they are incredible).

Last time I checked Geforces and Glide didn't exactly work together.

Interestingly enough, Creative did have a Glide wrapper in development which allowed you to run a Glide-only game. Unfortunately, 3DFx sued Creative over this, so development ceased.

It actually was usable, and I used it when the first Glide-only UnrealTournament demo was released on my Creative TNT2 Ultra.

I wouldn't be surprised if nVidia adds something similiar to their drivers eventually, after 3DFx's downfall.

Thanx for the info!!! - The updated file you mentioned 'SEEMS' to work!! I've been giving the bots on CTF some stick, with no probs for about half an hour (the longest yet without a freeze!).

I'm not gonna be able to reply with my findings (re latest glide link - S3TC) - it's 02:24 here in Scotland, and I'm up for work at 05:00, so I'd better get 'some' sleep..... maybe!!

I'll keep you posted, thanx very much for the link >>>>>RevolutionX<<<<< - any help is good help, being a UT newbie :)

Glad I could help you out. Enjoy the game, it may cause you problems but it's worth it in the end.

HE-HE!!

I couldn't go to sleep without lettin' you know just how good UT runs now LOL!!

I've even had to 'tone-down' the settings 'cos the new files have pushed my Geforce card to the limit! I'm MOST impressed!

Can't thanQ you enough >>>>>RevolutionX<<<<< - I'm a perfectionist, and if it aint right... I'm not a happy bunny!

Oh yeh... if you meet me on a server... GO EASY, EH?!!! LOL :))))))))
