I have a question about importing new textures:
in UE version 1 I created a lot of my own textures (using photoshop, illustrator e.d.) and also detail textures. now i have the new ut or ue 2 version and if i now import the same pcx (or bmp) files i just get a disturbed, unrecognisable image of all the pcx files i had created.
someone please help me out becouse me old map in wich I put many day's of work is now really ****ed-up and the new map i'm creating could use some new textures as well
(ps.: excuse my enlish, I'm Dutch)

make sure you import the textures as 8-bits palettized that might be the problem.24-bits textures cause this kind of weirdness.
(hey aren't you a chihuahua?)

And try to avoid textures with dimensions greater than 256*256.

This is intriguing. Either you palettized your textures back when you used UnrealEd 1, or it had a feature that automatically palettized true-color images on importing.

UnrealEd 1 was very dumb. At least worse than UEd 2. So I don't think it could change palette settings.

ChrisToth.hu, you seem to have been fairly active over the last few days. A lot of spare time, have you? :)

thx TaoPaiPai 4 your help, i palettized the textures like u said and now the are visible in the editor, problem remains that they don't work in the game so this might be the 24 - 8 bit problem, can u tell me how i can transform a pcx to 8 bits?? (using adobe photoshop for instance?)
(ps.: excuse my enlish, it sux)

ren hoëk:
If the textures are visible in the editor they should work in the game. Now I'm sure you remembered to save your textures in a utx package after you had them imported didn't you ;)
Don't worry my english suks as well.

Yeah nice community.
I also tend to post a lot when I'm waiting for my maps/scripts to compile.

I'm really happy it isn't that way with UnrealEd. Normally, my PC crashes every three hours or something like that when I don't do anything to it. When I touch it, it usually takes an hour for it to crash, most of the time with exception 0E.

My computer has a built-in unsaved stuff detection. If I ever forget to save anything my computer crashes and prevents me from recovering the lost stuff at all costs.

yea ofcourse i saved the tex. first. In ued 1 my textures worked when i had no black in them, just rgb colours. the rest didn't matter (exept 4 the size) but I have'nt expirimented a lot jet with it so i might work it out myselfe.
about my name..., do you know 'the ren & stipy show'?, see ren is my faforite character (toon), my real name is niels
about rebuilding a map?? this guy said he feeds his pats meanwhile, damn... when i rebuild it, it takes about an hour to complete, (on a amd k62 333mhz), i have to build al parts and movers in a different map and then import them to the original map to decrease the need to rebuild the map... if only i had a fast pc......
happy new year to all!!!!!!....by the way

An HOUR? I have a K6 233, and it very seldom takes even half an hour with levels at about 800 brushes. Any programs running in the background, any screensavers enabled?
