domination questions

first of all, what are some good dom servers that actually have people on them? i played a few games last night on one of the two servers i saw with anyone on and it was full of people whose main strategy consisted of running around with a charged piston. :)

secondly, how much camping is considered lame in dom? on my last map i went godlike(actually, i think i had 35-40 kills in a row before i suicided) guarding two control points, but i felt kinda bad cuz the other guys would run straight for the flag and i would just combo them when they got close. i know in ctf you're SUPPOSED to camp your flag on d, but wasn't sure if i was committing some sort of dom lameness by camping control points.

i like dom and prefer it to tdm, but it's shame there aren't more servers and players out there.

Nah there's nothing lame about camping control points... that's exactly why they put them there :)

Yeah I would have to say, DOM is really, really fun... it combines the very best of CTF and DM plus all kinds of new stuff... I have been playing as much DOM as possible the last few days (which is not much... there are only two DOM servers in Australia, usually empty) and they have been the most fun games I have played in ages. CTF flag caps have nothing on the frantic sensation you get watching the scores tick over on DOM while desperately trying to hold down a CP under massive onslaught...

when i play DOM i rarely run around. i like to stay at one point. it's better for you team if you have total control of a point instead of running around and taking one for a few seconds.

There is KS' server named The Killing Fields, but I prefer playing on Gamespy blah blah blah (I just know Gamespy since that is what the BHSers call it). There is no problem with camping control points. You are supposed to control the points so you kind of have to. Anyway, my only problem with Domination is the lack of talent. There are numerous newbies on DOM servers who lack awareness of their surroundings letting u shock combo all day long. Get SOB on the DOM ladder on PG. The more clans on it the better. btw DOM matches with clans rocks. Public play is all about personal scores and rarely about teamwork.

...and that's because the people playing on the public DOM servers do not understand how to play the game. It really does seem like there are more new-type players on DOM servers. It's hella fun though.

It might be me, but that is why it is called DOMINATION.. you have to DOMINATE the game if I am not mistaken. No other way to do that but, well, dominate the control points. See what I'm getting at? :D

As for camping in DOM, I completely agree with everyone else in this thread - that's what DOM is all about.
On a side note, I've acutally come to agree with ppl who say that pretty much everything goes. Even cheese - coz there's pretty much always some counter-cheese available...

Being the clanless bozo I am, I've spend more than a year on public DOM servers, and if you think DOM lacks talent NOW, you should've been there back then... geez..

And as already mentioned - check the BHS page (www.wuher.com) for basic DOM strategies/tactics...

As for what servers are good:

Being from europe, I very rarely visit US servers, but the 3-team gamespy server is usually pretty crowded, and there's usually some good players amongst them..

Recently the euro server Mightygames has become quite popular - it's got CSHP installed and every now and then there's a REALLY tough crowd of ppl on there... I guess that's the cool thing about having very few good servers - most top euro players hit the same few ones.. 16 players on 2 teams might be a bit unfortuneate tho, especially since the server cycles though Lament and Condemned which are both designed for less than 8 ppl. Especially Lament is insane with 16 players. Well, the roof on Condemned is equally chaotic, shock combos ALL over the place... and the narrow "streets" around the building are just completely goo'ed.. and some moron is always weapon camping at the RL.. erh... I'll just stop now - I just wish they'd throw in a couple of good custom maps instead - c'mon folks, even 56k ppl could endure dl'ing a few megs ONCE..

The Demon UK/NL servers used to be THE euro servers, but they're pretty much empty these days - a shame coz I ping very well on these.. :)

I would encourage any clan with any interest whatsoever in Domination come over to provinggrounds.com and join up on the DOM ladder. we've got more than a dozen clans now, which is small but large enough to keep battles going, with a talent spread ranging from never played before to elite CTF clans getting their arms elbow deep in gore to, well, us :) (BHS that is).

Strategy is simple to lay out, ask us (#bhs on ETG, or http://www.wuher.com, or email me rhakka@maine.rr.com) if you would like some tips, want to scrimmage, or want recommendations on teams to scrim if you don't feel like tackling BHS right off ... what really makes the difference is whether or not you know how to work together and cover each other. check it out. You will never know how intense domination can be until you play a clan match of DOM, unless you get very, very lucky.
