Reasons I don't like DOM
1.) Very few servers... the few players that are out there kick a$$ ('cause they know the maps) and let's face it, it's just not fun to get your a$$ beat while your lost on a map looking for a control point.
2.) I don't get the strategy element of the game at all. It seems like DM with mandatory running around.
Every time I've played online the team that wins is the team with the best 1 on 1 players. Also, if the best player in the game is significantly better than everyone else...that team always wins. This is not necessarily true in CTF. Team work can make a huge difference.
3.) Communication... average players in CTF can have a big impact on the game if they communicate with their teammates well. It does require binding speech to keys (not a thing newbies seem to do ...except for taunts!
but the CTF commands are varied and helpful. Some of the best CTF games I have been in are intense games where my team is outmanned/outnumbered but through superior communication we manage to win/compete...
What commands do you use in DOM? "Control point is secure" is a bit obvious... I can see the frickin' scoreboard I know you took the control point.
4.) Not many custom maps... although there has to be 3 times as many DM maps as there are CTF maps... there still is plenty of variety in CTF map play.
So there it is ... 4 good reasons why DOM is not as much fun as CTF online...
