I have a lift and it is lit except for the bottom of it when the lift goes up. I have tried everything i can think of. Any ideas?

Set the ground under the lift to special lit. the place a light above it and set the light to special lit as well. not sure how with the light, never done it before. that should fix that.

actually, what I think jenkins meant, was to set the bottom of the lift to special lit (but why not the ground also --- you probably want that also to be other than darkness when the lift rises). the special lit lights only affect surfaces that have the 'special lit' flag checked.

yeah, i tried this. it didnt make any difference. (the lifts were first subtracted from the floor so they had a little hole to nestle in when they werent in use). i selected the textures on the subtracted brush, made them special lit, added a special light beside the normal light just near the lift and rebuilt.

i think the reason why it didnt work was because the engine renders the mover's shadow at its base keyframe and leaves it there. so even when the mover is off doing its thing at key 1, its still rendered for lighting purposes at key 0 and therefore it 'blocks' ANY light from getting to the bit underneath it. no amount of special lights will alter that.

so, is there a way of making the shadow of the mover move with it in realtime?

Look into the Mover's Preferences, under Mover. Set BrushRaytraceKey and WorldRaytraceKey to 1, and both the mover and the world will be rendered as if the mover was at keyframe 1. There's a property called DynamicLightMover, but it doesn't seem to do anything like what you asked for.

i tried the worldtracekey thing too. youre right, set it to "1" and it renders the mover's shadow as if it were at that keyframe. it looks bad, though. like the lift is casting a shadow from up on level 1, say, when its really sitting on the floor. AND it still doesnt move. if anything, i think its less realistic.

shame, it looks like there's no way to do this.
