Nice to see some nonspammers reach godlike (tonight doesn't count, a little pregodlike spammage is expected, like a right of passage or something ;)).

I hate to give DA too much credit for anything, but the truth is, 99% of his posts are about UT (although 99% of those are about his l337 skills :p)

And Troll only posts when she really has something to say, whether it is about UT, or whether it is something on-topic in off-topic ;)

Oh, by the way, Yellow5 is redoing the ranking system since there are sooo many more PuFers now and since the Forum is approaching 1 year old. As of tomorrow, 2000 is Godlike and 1000 in inhuman. Sorry guys, but at least you were Godlike for 1 day. :o

1050 posts on my clan's forum
850 posts on PuF
120 posts on Unreality
about 100 posts on various smaller forums

So that's about 5500 posts overall .... in 1 year.

Last september when I got SA for the DC, everyday I went to the SA forums & posted like a madman. More than you could ever hope to achieve, & I wasn't even the biggest spammer there (altho, no one there would have called me a spammer, since we were all talking off topic! ;))! I would have kept posting there, but almost everyone I knew there left & only the newbies remained.

A: Kaz, DA and I don't care about being Godlike. Both of us have custom statuses so Godlike would never show up anyways.

B: The reason we made a big deal about it is not the post count, but the fact that we managed to reach a milestone at the same time, something that we thought would be neat to pull off. it's the milestone, and the fun of it. NOT the post count itself. Hell, we could have made it 1005 if we wanted. You still would have spammed like a m0. There's a difference. Like Boom said, DA and I tried to be funny so that our posts were at least entertaining. In OT that's all that's required.

C: If I wanted to reach Godlike quickly, I could have spammed the hell out of the forums like you did. I have been well into the 900's for over a month now. I believe I was in the mid 900's before SLUTCon. Since then I have barely posted, due to being very busy at work and not having time in the evenings. All of a sudden yesterday , DA and I noticed our post counts had gotten high and figured, what the hell.

D: Your rabid fascination with following both of us about the forums yesterday and spamming every single thread you saw with total non-posts, garbage, and answers that didn't really answer the question, made only one person look stupid:you. DA and I fell victim to the "Almost Godlike Virus" and even so we kept it to a few threads. Everything posted in OT was funny, which is pretty much all that is asked. We did not blindly open threads all the way down the entire front page and respond to them without reading them

So you see, once again you are judging everyone by your paranoia. DA and I are hardly "screwed" as you so nicely put it. You think we care, and why? Because you care. you care a lot for some reason. Why are you always so intent on thinking everyone wants to best you?

The way I look at it : YAY, we get to try for 2000 together. "Godlike" as a status means nothing, since we don't have standard statuses. It was more about hitting that mark together. A challenge. We said over a month ago that we'd pull it off and we did.

So once again, in your rabid quest to make people pay attention to you, you've put your foot in your mouth and missed the point. You said last night that you'd only post if you had something worthwhile to say. All I see is you rabidly trying for the last word yet again, veiling insults within your posts.

Y5, for what my opinion's worth, I think that's a great idea. If you want to keep the status, you can simply base it on the date they registered (ala Dopefish's Generation thread. :) )
The 'post-count envy phenomenon' actually works both ways: it can encourage spamming, but it can also discourage posting by people who might want to share their ideas, or simply some sort of funny comment but are afraid they we be labeled a spammer. I fall into the latter category myself, and this is the only forum where I post that I restrain myself from posting certain things for fear of being criticized and/or labeled (not by the admins, but my peers.) I don't know, maybe that's a good thing in general, considering the # of people that post here.

Anyway, I just realized this is off-topic for this particular thread. Might I suggest a thread dedicated to the post-count function? It might be interesting to hear other people's thoughts on this. Of course, I'm also open to other suggestions (i.e. p*ss off, bite me, etc. :) )

Get rid of the post count? bad idea. People love it, and its worth putting up with a bit of spam for such info. Post counts are a good way to show who the "top" people in forums are, so new comers know who is who and such like.

And as for my views, as long as my post is high eneugh to get respect, say 500, im happy.

Personally, I can't really understand why anyone throws a fit about "spam"? Is there some concrete definition as to what spam is? Is there some objective example of what a post on Planet Unreal Forums should be? Is there really such thing as a proper post on these forums? The only thing that I see is the disclaimer when you first register.

Personally, I too don't really care anymore about post counts. There are too many other things to worry about in life. I would gladly give up all the fancy schmancy frilly forum stuff in favor of faster forums (if this is what's lagging them).

Kazzie, if you were to come to me and say "Gee I am sorry I have done this or this" the last thing that I would do is to take offense to you. I would rather have you assume and apologize than than not give a f*ck. If I recieved that treatment when I did apologize, it would be the last time I said sorry to that person ever again. :)

Well, ignoring your thinly veiled attempt to start a sh!tstorm Goughmezz ;) ....here goes. Now this may not be Webster's definition, but there is a pretty clear idea out there on what spam is. Kaz seemed to be the only one not clear on what it is, if you read people's responses to his actions. Goughmezz, if you'd seen the forums last night at 8:20pm, and seen nothing but every single post responded to by Kaz, for the entire first page and half of the second, and time logs like : 8:21 , 8:22, 8:23, 8:24, etc. and the content of those posts showed that he didn't even read the thread starter or the responses themselves, and was putting words on the screen purely for his own benefit, resulting in threads that people possibly wanted to read being bumped to the second page because of Kaz's manic responding...when you take all that you have disrupted the forum and, for all intents and purposes: spammed.

Spam is basically stuff that no one wants to read. To spam is the is the verb. Spamming is the act of taking that stuff and posting it whether it be on a forum or a BBS or whatever. Repeating something that no one wants to hear or read or see is also spamming. That's probably what you were referring to. That stuff you get in your email from places telling you that you can earn a million dollars working from home, that's spam.
