My ping is good again!

  • Two Factor Authentication is now available on BeyondUnreal Forums. To configure it, visit your Profile and look for the "Two Step Verification" option on the left side. We can send codes via email (may be slower) or you can set up any TOTP Authenticator app on your phone (Authy, Google Authenticator, etc) to deliver codes. It is highly recommended that you configure this to keep your account safe.

I don't know what did it. I pulled the modem plug and put it back in again(that was what probably did it) and undid a ton of settings that could cause problems and didn't help anyway...I really have to stop doing that.

My pings are back in the 80-100 range again with no PL! Yay!

Apparently they DIDN'T cap upload, it's still true 784k SDSL. Something was screwing up the connection.

Y'know, not ever having had DSL, I never would have thought to suggest that. But, I found that it worked with my RCA cable modem. Glad you're back in business!

wb again Kukuman

I've got a cable modem, and it's supposed to stay plugged in all the time.

However, one of the first thing the techies on the "Packet Loss Hotline" tell me to do when I'm not connected is to unplug the modem for ten seconds, then plug it back in.

I think it helps the router recognize the connection better in the same way as a re-boot of a computer.

I have a problem that when I start the computer up, sometimes my cable internet won't hook up immediately, and I have to wait up to a half hour before I lease an IP address. I thought I was supposed to be hooked into the net 24/7 with cable. Plus, it's always the same IP addy so wtf is this?

Hey Morety, if you know you get the same IP everytime, just specify that IP as your IP as opposed to using DHCP (that's what I do). You'll need your subnet, gateway, and DNS info, but you'll never have the long wait for an IP address again. However, if they change your IP, which some cable providers have been known to do, I'm not sure what will happen.
