Hey

Ok, very simple problem here, my skies blow. I cant make good ones if the world depended on it. I dont think I really understand how to though.

This is what I tried:

1.I made a small map(1 room-1024-1024-1024 i think)
2.After all the lighting, player start, etc.., I made the very same box(same size) and placed it on top of the first one...then i hit subtract
3.now, the room is double in height(i hope you are following me)I click on the ceiling and walls(of the room on top) and texture it with stars...I just dont understand how to make it look like an actual sky.
4. I was hoping that someone could maybe walk me through it a little better then the tutorial at http://utu.unrealism.com

Thanks alot, I really appreciate all your help
p.s. ill name my map after you

You are actually going about it all wrong. You don't just texuture stars in where you want sky. What you need to do is make a "sky box", which will actually be totally apart from your level. It's a little to hard for me to explain here. The best thing to do is look at another tutorial.

Here is a link for a tutorial database. It lists tutorials by lots of different authors. So on any subject (such as skyboxes) will have several tutorials by different authors. So if one confuses ya you can always look at another. I'd bookmark it if I were you, it will come in real handy as you learn to make maps :)

ok ya as he said you are doing it wrong...
ok say you have your 1024X1024X1024 subtracted box or whatever it is....now 'away' from your level somehwere else subtract another box(doesn't have to be the same size)...texture it with stars if you want and to make it look better you can create a sheet with the same dimensions as your 'sky box' and find a cloud texture and add it(you can make it translucent if you want and add upan or vpan).
next go to your actor browser and extend the info tab..then go to zoneinfo and extend that...then select skyzoneinfo...add it into your 'skybox' then on the level where you want to play select the ceiling and bring up the properties, select fakebackdrop then rebuild...
oh ya make sure you add light into your skybox..skyboxes can also be any shape you want it doesn't have to be a cube...and uhhh...since i suck at explaining things i hope that helped

To make the textures pan slower, in your skyzoneinfo
click on the Lighting properties, and adjust the upan vpan
speed to about .3 or .4 this is really slow, the higher the number, the faster the textures will pan, this is the same on all zoneinfo properties (you can adjust a regular zoneinfo the same way to make a fast waterfall, by turning the vpan speed to say 15-20)

or you could go into your skyzoneinfo and go the to zonelight property and change the upan and vpan properties there i put mine on .2 to make it go slow and not look fake
