I press one button and I dodge. Left, right, forward and back.

I don't know if this is news to anyone but I haven't seen it mentioned.
The RazerMenu program allows you to set up macros for your mouse buttons. I just type the key sequence for a macro and assign it to my mouse.
I did double left and "wallah" one-button dodging.
It works online.

The only problem is that it isn't highly practical. I assigned the dodging to my 4th and 5th button which are on the underside of my mouse. This means I have to "squeeze" my mouse with my pinky and thumb while firing/altfiring with my other fingers. The "squeezing" makes fragging while dodging impossible because of the high sensitivity of the RaZer (I'm all over the screen!).

So one-button dodging isn't impossible. I think a macro program could set it up for the keyboard. I don't know. But I do have one-button dodging and it is useful when going around corners or when you are the FC.

unfortunatly there are keyboard macro programs you can even download some for free that will allow 1 button dodgein in ut you can also use the game commander voice thingy to do a dodge but its pretty delayed so its useless

if you use any of these you are a cheater

nepenthe: this might not help you much, but the software that came with my Microsoft Natural Keyboard allows me to disable all those gay windows buttons. I thought there was also a way to disable the win keys through TweakUI, but I didn't notice where it was when I was looking through my copy of it

if you use any of these you are a cheater
may be, but I'm sure I can dodge just as well with the double tap as someone else can with their macros. heh, one button dodging doesn't give a player that much of an advantage over someone who's good at double tapping. hell, with the way I setup my keyboard, assigning a few keys to one button dodging might actually put me at a disadvantage because of all the other shyt I have bound.. I'd have to get rid of a few voice command binds to make room for those binds.. which is something I don't wanna do.

¦:¬), cheater sounds a bit harsh for that don't you think?

There really aren't any button combinations that could be used in a macro that would give someone a huge advantage. Nobody complains about keybinds and aliases being cheating... so how would these things be any different? I don't see that either program would give anyone a huge advantage. Do you consider Roger Wilco cheating as well?

I didn't mean to sound angry in this message, but by reading it I can see how it could be misunderstood. Just giving my opinion and inviting other peoples.

Have you played against someone using a one button dodge via a keyboard? I have and they literally run circles around you. If they don't frag you, then you frag yourself trying to get rid of the lamer. I watched a sniper use one button dodge and he was nearly impossible to hit. Is that skill? You all judge.

But what I find ironic is that most UT players are happy about the delay in the trans with the new patch, calling the teletrain an unfair advantage. However, one button dodge is okay? Play with a good player who had time to practice with the one button dodge, then after that...you would be hugging the next teletrainer. I won't doubt Epic will soon fix this too.

cheater being to harsh

no i dont think so it may not be that much of an advantage but hey why dont i scale down my player mesh it wont be that much of an advantage wile im at it why dont i remove the max armor limits 4 or 5 shield belts arent that much of an advantage wile im at it why dont i make my skin translucent so you cant see me in the dark

where do you draw the line for cheating alias are in no way cheating cause the whole game is based on useing aliass for fireing and all the other crap alto there is a few alias that exploit bugs which is cheating

i have know how to do all this crap for months im sure im not the only one i have seen people useing this stuff online

no i dont think rw is a cheat cause its not that helpful altho i have played game with DD wile they were chattin on bcom i kept running into like 3 of them at a time it was most annoying but they were being lame and stackin the teams so it was DD vs all

if i made a simple alias that alowed me to fire the flak cannon 5 times a sec if i used that would i be a cheater HELL YES

trying to rationlize a cheat by calling it not so bad of a cheat is just you trying to fool yourself

Hey smilie d00d.. throw some periods(.) up in that there post boy!

Hehe, I agree, one button dodging (or having a meta key set so when pressed, your movement keys dodge on one press) would definately be cheating. It's hard enough hitting someone who dodges alot anyhow... could you imagine someone dodging nonstop?

I didn't realize a macro would allow you to do it faster, simply easier. I have noticed that if you constantly tap one direction there is a delay between how often you can dodge. I assume this would still be present if you used a macro. Afterall, it will be the same as tapping the button twice. The reason I compared it to keybinds and aliases is because those are used to make something easier. I still don't see how this is so different.

Exactly HOW would this be a major problem?
I'm still under the impression that you can only dodge so often, so could someone explain the problem? If I created a alias that allowed me to fire the flak 5 times a second, yes that WOULD be cheating, but this macro wouldn't increase how often you could dodge. Or at least I don't see how it could.

I agree with Mr. Smiley and Alarion ... one button dodging is cheating. If Epic wanted you to be able to do it, they'd have let you bind a key to it. You've got to draw a line somewhere. My rule of thumb: If you can't bind something to it from within UT, it's cheating.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with either side of the cheating argument on this question. Granted, using a program to do something with UT that others might not be aware of does sound an awful lot like cheating, especially if the programmers didn't want them to be able to do it. But, by doing so, they're also giving up a lot. For one thing, due to having to have keys available at a moments notice, they are giving up two primary keys that could be better used for other purposes. Me personally, there's no way I could find two keys that are that readily available that I could give up. Also, anyone who has gotten themselves really accustomed to double tapping for the dodge will testify that they'd rather keep doing it that way (because it's faster) then having to move your finger and single tap another key to do it (well...I wouldn't switch :p ...I'm just assuming others agree). I think people who are bad at dodging, or haven't tried it, will find the single tap easier without question, but with practice, I think the double-tappers will have a tactical advantage by having two more readily available keys at their disposal for other functions.

I see your point, but I still don't know that it would make that specific bind cheating. I don't think epic specifically made the binding system in a way that you couldn't bind the dodge. I think it's simply impossible due to the setup of it. When you bind something in UT the button bound to it stays pressed untill you release it, therefore binding a key to "strafeleft | onrelease strafeleft" would be pointless. I think they did it this way because the key being held as you held the button would be needed more than having it only pressed for a moment, not so that you couldn't bind a key to dodge. In fact, could there be a command that you could put in the bind that would make this possible?

I would like to know HOW this could be an unfair advantage.. since I don't see that it would make a huge difference. As many of you know I can't stand cheaters, but I'm just not convinced that this would be in that category. If nothing else I would like to try it, just to see if it IS unfair. Does anyone know where I could find a program to test this? Again I DON'T WANT TO CHEAT, I just want to see if this would be an unfair thing firsthand.

i wouldnt think it would allow you to dodge faster... on e of the draw backs to the dodge is the fact you have to wait.. if only a little bit before doing it again
anyway, there arnt enough free keys to do it...

ok.. where to draw the line, weapon drop/pickup with weap stay on?

anything that is not generally known.. may as well be considered cheating

Ok, time to admit...I have a way to one button dodge. My clan knows I have this, but I will never use this online. Why, because I consider it a cheat. Trust me when I say there is NO pause. You literally dodge like a rabbit in heat. I can't speak for these macros...but with what I got, there is no pause. It's really crazy to watch someone dodge without a pause and gives the user an unfair advantage. If Epic had used this originally in UT, then the game play would be very different. Therefore, IMHO...it's cheating.

PS...don't ask me for the code or method on one button dogde...I'll ignore you:).

Proph, wouldn't whatever you have need to modify the UT settings somehow to get rid of the delay? Anything that got rid of the delay would definately be cheating. I guess that's the end of this thread :).
