I have been reading and practicing the basics and understand the fundamentals of the editor and will be gratefull for any help from you pros out there as I go.
I have run into a start up problem I subtracted a room,(an intended outdoor space 2048x5120x12,544)added textures, start point, a few lights, rebuilt it saved and tried to play level(from within editor) just to get a feel for the size of the space. It has opened which is strange as; most of the time I get the following.
General protection error History Message Pump <-MainLoop.
While it's loading the last thing in the startup window I get is glide shut down and then bound to software renderer.
I am using a PIII 733 W/256 and a V5 card.Ued ver 2.0 fix 4 applied and UT 428
Any help much appreciated. :)

Can you play the level by double clicking on the .unr file?
The first thing I would check is that your 3D view window in the editor is not set to hardware mode. Make sure it is in software by right clicking the 3D view menu bar.
You can also try playing unreal in OpenGL.
Any other details that you can give?

It was in software mode already so I tried again this time it still wouldn't load but when I collapsed the editor to the task bar and closed the log window there were 2 UT's in the task bar I clicked one of them and voila i was in.looked around my simple room and the quit, reloaded the editor and this time no go at all.
I didn't try open GL as I think there may be problems with open GL on the V5 from what I have read so I don't want to go there.
Very strange I'm thinking a complete reload may be in order.

Yes, try reinstalling unreal, then intalling the latest patch.
Does it run fine if the editor is closed?

If you re-install it AND the patch, and you still have problems, go with the 425 patch. I had problems with 428 also but 425 works fine. What is that "fix 4" you mentinoned? The last time I heard anything about that was back before Ued 2.0 came out... it was for Ued 1.

Just a general question, have you done a complete rebuild before testing?
