I have a cable modem and was trying to host a game but it seems that no one can see my game with out me giving the the address to look for it does'nt show up like the other servers under Deathmatch CTF ect...ect even though I have the check mark in the box to advertise server. Is there something else going on here? I have called GT and the cable company about this no help there!

First of all, cablemodems suck for hosting games, like UT.
Their shared lines, givin them a variable connection speeds.
Also most cable providers limit the upload speeds of cablemodems, like mine its 1024Kb download, and 256kb upload speeds.

But when i tweak it, i can host max an 1on1 game, or the players will get Packetloss like idiots.
Furthermore, some providers don't want you to be able to host at all, and put you behind an proxy server.

So you have to find out on what ports the proxy runs.
Or when you have yourself an router, or firewall, those can keep users also unable to connect.

It could come from a firewall or proxy setting. When players or the master server probe on your IP, it could be blocked by a firewall or proxy... but I'm unsure about this being the problem...

My brother had that problem with his server, I'll ask him the next time I see him. Could be a week or so though, and I'm sure it'll be figured out by then. If it's a dedicated server and you've clicked the box, it should work I would think. Do you have it networked with another computer?

My cable system (my brother's as well) has the modem capped at a 3 meg download. When uploading, it's gone almost up to 1,000 kbps. Baddgerr (my bro) has a cable server which does a fine job (for the most part) hosting 10 people. Of course, if everyone in the area were to get on their cable at the same time, I'm sure it'd be pl hell. The only way to know how many people max. you can host is by testing it out and adjusting the netspeed to various amounts to find what works. The normal max for cable servers is around 6-8.

Get your friends to email you about the performance.

I had this same problem when I had my cable modem...Your server will not show up on the multiplayer (Find a Game) for a few minutes. You have to give it time, as it's not instantanious. I was hosting a game one time, and it took the people connecting to me a few refresh of all the servers for mine to show up. Of course I just simply use ICQ and send out my IP to the people playing me, that's much easier than having someone dig throughout the 2000 servers to find mine. If you have them open the location to your IP address, and once they connect to you, have them hit the Escape key (NOT F10-this cancels the connection), and under the Multiplayer-Find Game menu, they should have your server highlighted, have them right click and save to favorites (that is, if your cable modem has a static IP). My modem had the same IP the entire time I had it, so really I just had everyone write it down, or when they go to open location, it pops up under the drop-down box. If you really find the need to have them search, you must allow time for the server to show up. Hope that helps, as I wasn't sure if you were running a dedicated server or not, but the same should apply to dedicated servers also.

similar problem here i have several friends around town that i hang with who have cable, dsl, regular 56k connections etc.some of them could see the game posted some could not. but none of them could actually enter the game even after being givin the ip adress.like admiral95 my ip address stayed the same for me.even the guy at GT grabbed a copy of the game and couldn't get in.and my cable company was no help eigther. they said they don't block communication across any ports such as 7777.but one night i had started a game with the guys and they still couldn't get in untill this other player that i didn't know joined the game then all of a sudden bam all my buds were in.If that isn't screwy i don't know what is.

Make sure you have the "advertise server" box checked. This way your server will be seen by others when they refresh.

It is my knowledge that when you set up a cable modem server, whether you choose to advertise it or not, it will appear on the server list when you click on the LAN Games tab at the top of the UT Server Display menu. I don't know if this will be of any help to you though.
