Hey folks, just thought I'd pass this along to all of you fellow fraggers who are still stuck with your old K6-2 processors (as I was).
Got one of the new K6-2+ laptop processors and put it on my board, and UT now glides like an eagle, no choppiness at all. These new processors have the same architecture as a Celeron, same on die cache, and are equally overclockable. I got the 500mhz variety, and it runs at 550 without a hitch. 600 isn't a problem with a good heatsink/fan and some heat compound.
There's life in those old Socket 7 boxes after all with these chips. You can get a list of compatible mobos on the forums over at http://www.amdzone.com
Also, anyone looking to build a new budget box, this might be your solutions. You can get the processors OEM at http://www.vegapc.com for 89 bucks.
