View Full Version : Are You Smaller???

Last nite I was playing Hall of Giants and as I was (uncontrollably) flying through the low grav air I was trying to hit an opponent (also flying through the air)... I noticed (as I consistently couldn't hit him) that he was "crouched". Does Crouching actually make your "to hit" area smaller? I know different sized models don't matter (the female models, while smaller, actually are just as easy to hit) but does crouching change the size of the hit zone?

My guess is that it does not (just moves it) becuase itherwise all of the elite would run around permanently crouched.

Some one in the know please answer!

Of course crouching makes your hit box smaller. When you crouch, you can get your head shot off in the same place as when you're standing. Think of the WarCow as someone who is always crouching. That weapon stand is exactly where a crouching human's head is.

He jumped into the air and hit the crouch. It does indeed make the hit zone smaller.

The reason the elite do not run around crouched, is that because when you are crouched, you actually go slower than a walk and make an easier target than somebody standing and dodging.

This is not entirely true. The hit zone of the warcow is SUPPOSEDLY the same as a standing human. The weapon rack is supposedly where the head is. Can a cow crouch? Something I've never noticed. The cow should be a weapon, not a skin. Wind it up and send it running off into the enema. Moo my @ss.

1.) Why don't people crouch more?

2.) Is the Nali War cow a superior skin since the hit zone is smaller?

3.) Where the he|| do I aim to get a head shot on the war cow anyway?

4.) So to get a head shot on a crouching player I should aim for where his/her head was BEFORE they crouched?

Thanks for the info!

I seem to recall a weapon for Unreal (on Weapons Of Destruction (http://www.planetunreal.com/wod) that was actually the squid. It made sonic booms and stuff.

1) Because you move really slow.

2)No, the hit zone is SUPPOSEDLY the same as a standing human. As for being superior, no way. It's a shameless, smelly, pooping excuse for a skin.

3)The top of the weapon rack, where a human's head would be if it were an actual human skin, and not a stupid....well, you know the rest.

4) Nope. Shoot where their head is when they're crouched.

1.) Why don't people crouch more? Like Morety said, it slows you down.

2.) Is the Nali War cow a superior skin since the hit zone is smaller? I now think that maybe they (Epic) intended it this way because the WarCow is so underrated by the public.

3.) Where the he|| do I aim to get a head shot on the war cow anyway? The weapon rack.

4.) So to get a head shot on a crouching player I should aim for where his/her head was BEFORE they crouched? Nooooo, aim for where there head IS.

/me holds his finger up to his lips, and blows the smoke away making the noise of a hollow gun barrel. :)

WTF is that supposed to mean? Seriously.

I think that crouching actually prevents head shots.

I've seen people crouch and get their head shot off. Hell, it's happened to me before too.

UT needs a spasmatic kicking animation after a headshot. Maby something where the body keeps running straight until it hits a wall or falls (unless they have a flag)
That would be humor

Does crouching eliminate headshots?
Yes, it does! It makes it impossible to be beheaded by SniperRifle, Ripper and Chainsaw. It will also improve the accuracy of your weapon. Thus it is recommended to crouch, when you snipe (especially against other snipers), when an opponent fills the room around you with razors or in a chainsaw melee.

in modeling a UT model, isn't there a separate animation for headshots? I know that the Rumiko model doesn't really get her head blown off when she gets headshotted. this makes me thing it is possible to do that.. model authors have either never thought of doing that or thought it was too much trouble to do

i thought Unreal had an animation where the player reaches up for where his head was then falls down and dies...
or maybe it was the Skaar Warrior that did this.
i just remember the first time seeing that i laughed my @$$ off.

Wish Epic would of did that for the player models in UT.

tenthfret, that's news to me.

I'm going to have to get on a server tonight, crouch, fart, and let someone check that out.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

It's always nice to see somebody doing their homework. :)

tenthfret was correct in saying that crouching eliminates decapitation by any means, be it SR, ripper, whatever. but an interesting quirk is that it also works for the cow model. when you crouch with the cow, it doesen't appear that you're crouching (he just kinda leans to one side), but it shrinks his hit-area down just as if it were a normal person. This makes his little gunrack on top nothing more than decoration, bullets will whizz right through it, although his appearance won't change. And despite what people say, the cow's hit areas are almost *exactly* the same as a normal model's. I think people say it's harder to hit because they get confused as to what to shoot for.

I hope this cleared things up a little bit :)
Cheers!

p.s. I know this because this post prompted me to do some tests, and these were the results. the test machines were a p3 700 with UT 4.25, and a G3 450 with UT 4.13
