I have two computers and one copy of UT. While out of town, I purchased a second copy of UT to be legal, one for each computer. Tried to install 2nd copy, and it wouldn't work. There was a defect on the CD (clearly visible and unremoveable). Emailed GTI, and its going to cost me approx. 10$ (shipping and media) to get a replacement. They shipped a defective CD to CompUSA and I'm going to have to pay $10 more for UT. Going back to CompUSA is not an option (6 hour round trip drive). Next time I'll go to ************* or somewhere else and pirate the darn thing...

Honestly, I don't think you should have to pay to get the cd you should have gotten in the box. Personally, with the type of personality I have, I would b***h like there's no tomorrow at them!

If I remember correctly the discussion about the CD check during the early phase of UT, Epic's VP Mark Rein himself advised that you could use the same CD to start UT on several computers. I understand this as a statement would tolerate the use of one copy of UT to run it on several machines in the same household or in a LAN party.
As for GT: That's pretty sad. They expect us not to use no-cd-cracks, but if you don't, you get shafted. :(

When I hurt my back GT and Epic were very warm and supportive. I will always appreciate what they done for me. Glenn Broderick works at GT as a Product Manager and had some of his PR folks send me some stuff. Send me an email and I'll foward that to Glenn. Also, you might have to show some proof you bought the game, so send that also (if possible). I won't guarantee a free copy, but it's worth a try. GT and Epic aren't out to screw us...sometimes it's standard policy to charge an amount for a replacement. I'll help, so send me an email at prophetus@mail.com

Very kind of you to offer Prophetus, but the CD and receipt are on its way to Customer Support at GTI already. Maybe once they look at the disk and see that I couldn't have placed a "blemmish" like that they will ripe up my check.(But I doubt it.)
Also, thanks for the info Cleaner, but would it work for two computers playing on the internet thru a cable router? Besides, the moneys gone now, and therefore they owe me more than they have offered so far....

Well, what Mark Rein pointed out that you can simply take the CD out of the drive after you have started UT on the first machine and then take it to the next and start it there. UT does not check the CD once it has started (provided you did a full install).
Well and certainly there is this crack to remove the cd check that you can d/l at http://www.*************.com. It's legal to use it, if you own your personal copy of UT.

Sorry about your situation redlee - but most places expect you to pay for shipping if you want somewthing replaced. Normally it would be no big deal, because the thing to do in this situation is to take the CD back to CompUSA for a refund or exchange.
Moral of the story - never purchase something like that while out of town :(
Good luck
