View Full Version : outdoor / urban mapping problem: textures for buildings

I'm working on an outdoor map with lots of buildings. But I don't want to use the usual brickstone textures, as the look too old (the story plays in the future). I tried concrete textures, but they look ugly and weird on big surfaces, because you can't see any details. All you see is just a one-colored texture!

Can anyone give me a hint on textures/packages I could use?
Thanx in advance

You could pay a visit to one of the numerous web sites devoted to custom textures (ie textureuniverse.com). If you're trying to stick with original textures from the game, then you're probably SOL. The DecayedS, Mine, and Starship texture packages have a lot of techno looking stuff - might be close enough to what you're looking for. That's where I grab most of my futuristic looking stuff.

What about the textures in cityintro?

Hey! :)

I replied to your request in the Texture Universe forum...I just hadn't seen it. There are 3 or 4 textures there which might help. They're called "steelbox" (don't ask me how I got all of the filenames...I made them up as I went along), one is on page 2 of the metal textures. They tile seamlessly and look like metal scales. The one with the lights would make a good ceiling and will tile well with the others of the same type...provided you keep the scale the same for all of them.

Check out my forum post over at TU. Otherwise, run through the free-texture-site links on TU. Hope that helps.

Scott

Thanks all!
I think I will take a few hours and try the textures with different light settings. A texture is only used correctly, when you light it in the right way!

Das: I followed your tips on textureuniverse (see my reply there). The problem with all other texture sites is, that they mostly offer hyper-realistic photos and no game-textures.

I don't need indoor futuristic textures, like the many wall-tex. in "PlayerShip", but non-brick-metal-outdoor-wall-textures (that a cool word ;)).

Again thanks to all who replied! Further advices are welcomed...

8-4-7-2 I'm doing an urban style map aswell and happen to have a lot of textures packs that have decent brick building textures. Have you downloaded the Tactical Ops mod? or infiltrator? Those two mods had some good textures in them.

Texture packs that I have nots on that might have stuff your interested in are:

Urban.utx
UT.utx
Swat_ganja_1.utx
Subway.utx
kp.utx
indus6.utx

check these out....
