A humble request

GMT, what the heck is that.

Sorry Swedix. Since the vast vast majority of UT players are in the US, it makes sense to use US time. GMT may be the standard for you Euros, but us AMERICANS (/me starts humming Yankee Doodle) are as lost with GMT as we are with the metric system. I have no idea how many hours ahead GMT is, and neither do like 75% (at least) of the people who post here.

Either a few Euros have to learn how far ahead they are of EST, or a whole bunch of Americans need to learn German time. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.

Also, we Americans are really self centered, because America is the center of the Universe.

And we didn't beat the piss out of Germany in WW2 just to wind up setting our clocks to German time.

I'm sorry for being a typical rude American (you did ask nicely) but I have been celebrating our Independance day and I am full of patriotism and stuff like that today.

Besides, I say we use our time, because we are the ones with the vast nuclear arsenal (can't argue with that kinda logic).

MUAHAHAHAHHAHAH.

BTW, just having some Independance day fun, no disrespect meant to any of the 2nd world countries.

gmt=greenwich mean time
i think its a good idea.. if you've setup your timezone right (in win9x atleast), you can double click on your time on the explorer bar thing and it'll pop up a time setup thing and it says (ie; my tz is EST):
(GMT -5:00) Eastern time
much easier to figure out (especially for foriegners that don't already know) than PDT, MST, or EST

G(==Greenwich) Mean Time. Is the Standard world time, iirc NASA uses it also.
So it has nothing to do with germans (who live in the CET timezone

And yes, all times should be GMT, it would make things a lot easier.

seriously tho, i believe the time difference is either 6 or 9 hours, depending which side of the States you take. so, if FragPU starts at 7 pm, it's about 4 am in Europe.

heh, but if you were talking about the US in the way you're thinking off.. i'm sure we're newer than second world.

Boom; (i just read what you said) the world (or atleast the US) be a much simpler place if we learned to stop being stubborn and use metric instead of what we use now.. i don't even know what pints to ounces is.. but litres to kiloliters.. that's easy. if we can't understand that there's 1000 litres in a kilolitre.. 10 litres in a decolitre (or is it deca-? i forget..) and so on.. then maybe people are right about assuming Americans are, overall, stupid. (puts on his flameproof suit too)

GMT would be easier, everyone knows how there time compares to GMT. At events like FragPU, the time should be shown at GMT and EST.

sure thing.
i doubt the vast majority of puffers here are Americans.. but i wouldn't be surprised if Americans make up atleast a small majority (oxymoron?)
my guess would be that out of everyone that owns/plays UT, Americans would be an even smaller majority.. heck, there's only 260 million (last time i checked anyway) of us :/

Sorry about that Darklite, we gave you the IMPERIAL system. (Now we're "allegedly" using metric).
It does make you feel superior to the other europeans though, I mean, come on, they're measuring in centimetres, we're measuring in inches , even though I must admit it's a b1tch to work out.

That reminds me, last January I was in the States (Minniapolis to be precise) on a 2 week training course/margerita binge. Standing by the bar in the restaurent looking out the window we saw two deer, (one full size, one ickle one).

First of all I just want to say to all you Euros out there....if you are so superior to us Americans why don't you use that superioir brain of yours to figure out the time difference rather than complain about it

Second...now that I'm done offending all the europeans.....on to my real reason for posting....I could care less what is used because for some strange reason I remember what my time difference is from GMT.....and Gramps....its a 5 to 8 hour difference, not 6 to 9......

rumple, if it did make me feel superior, i wasn't aware of it. imo, the imperial system is more trouble than its worth..

You guys all totally rule for taking my silly post in the way that it was meant, and not being offended by my ridiculousness.

Actually, I have no real knowledge of what percentage of UT players are American, I just figure that us fat lazy b-stards have a lot more free time and disposable income that you poor struggling developing nations. Heck, the entire British Empire can't figure out a way to fix LK's internet connection.

As far as the 1st world, 2nd world thing. I had learned back in the 80's that the so-called "superpowers" countries (USSR and USA) were referred to as 1st world. The countries with real problems in South America and Africa are 3rd world. And the rest of you guys are 2nd world. Now that the USA is the only superpower left, I don't know if the whole 1st 2nd 3rd world thing makes any sense anymore.

Now back to my flag waving...



We should use American time as the standard because (me starts humming "My Country tis of thee). This is the land of the free and the brave. This is the land of the Big Mac and the Whopper. This is the land of the WWF and the WCW. This is the land of Howard Stern and CliffyB. This is the land of 500 cable channels. This is the land of New Cottonelle with thicker ripples.

In all seriousness. The United States government is the oldest continuous form of government still in operation. You have all had some sort of revolution or major government restructure since the American Constitution was signed. Heck, a lot of your governments have used the American Constitution for inspiration when designing your current systems (who is the newbie now?).

We invented the combustion engine.
We discovered electricity.
We invented television.
We invented the light bulb.
We invented the airplane.
We invented UT.
We invented the Computer.
We invented the phonograph (first way ever to record sound).
We invented the automobile.
We invented Rock and Freakin Roll. (the Beatles rule, but readily admit their American influences).
We invented Starbucks (although it is evil).
We invented the 5 minute home pasta maker.
We invented the internet.
We invented the skyscraper.
We first had opposable thumbs.

Ok tell you what. You guys really want to use GMT? Ok, as soon as one of you plants your country's flag on the moon, we will switch to GMT.

Everyone, QUIET!!!!!

This is like a thread from the GT Forums, everyone bashing everyone else's countries.

I'm American and I love you all. So there.

And unless you live along the same longitude as Greenwich, you're going to have to do some addition/subtraction to get the right time. Hell, I live on the west coast of the US and everything here is given in Eastern time. So, with my gargantuan intellect, I subtract three. It's really not that hard.

I don't give a damn what time zone is used, as long as I know which it is, then I feel pretty confident in my "l33t" first grade math skills to add and subtract.
