This is it.
I have kept my mouth shut long enough. I have never complained about any problems with UT. Aside from the "wow, look at that" or "I'll stick to D since I'm lagging a lot" and the rare "laaaaaaag g g g g" I've never hauled off about a sh!tty connection.

From someone that played UT every night for hours, every day of the week, nothing but a word or two metioned to anyone that I was slightly "behind" everyone else.

That all seemed to change.
What happened?

I stopped playing.

I played Unreal's SP game for a while. Played some user made SP map packs. I even got one of my coworkers not just interested but obsessed with Unreal. A few weeks went by and I got bored. I had beaten Unreals SP game w/o cheating for the first time. As well as NaPali (Mission Pack). I started making a SP level of my own.
When today I decided I needed a break. I was bored with life. I hate my job and I hate the ignorant masses of people that I have to resectfully "satisfy" every day. Especially today. What are my options, what can I do with sooo much pent up anger. Plug in my Marshall and crank the mudda up to 11? Not at 11pm.
I was desperate, I had to do something. I then remembered what had brought me pleasure for so long. The one thing that made me hurry home from a hard days work.

....

I got home installed UT, patched it up, installed the bonus pack, installed the inoxx pack, install the ctf-retail maps.
Done...

I startup UT (after a few tweaks to the inis) go through configuration and immeiately connect to the net.

As I hit the CTF servers tab the giddy feeling of anticipation ran through me like I was playing for the first time. This is it, I thought, all my problems washed away.

Found some servers to add to my favs right away (didn't know ]LoL[ had a server) and jumped in the old favorite.
The Roost.

Connecting...

CTF-November. I hadn't played this map in a while but its just like riding a bike. I began on D. Team connunication was amost nill. No big deal. Went on O for two attempted flag caps, diddn't make it to my territory either time. Thats not rare when you have a few PuFs and/or MyUs in the game.

Then things just started to go downhill.
The all too familiar ping spike :(
If any of you saw it, I posted a pic a while back of me on Roos with a huge (18k) ping and everyone else was in the 80-200 range.
Map changed, ping diddn't.

The game automatically went from fun, to frustrating.

By the time I left I was so hot I decided just leave, w/o a word. My anger was just skyrocketing, I decided its better to leave silently than go off about a sh!tty ping to someone who has no control over it.

Sorry bout the long post, but...

I feel that until something happens with my current connection I might not be playing UT that much if at all. I will still post, but if it is the latter, then this post is somewhat of a resignation and thanks too all the PuF I've had the opportunity to play. You all have given me some great games.

What is your connection?
Do you have any alternatives?

I use DSL and if you can, I recommend it. I don't know how close you are to the switch, but I'd call and ask your telephone carrier. It's spreading to compete with your other options, ISDN and cable. I spend an additional $20 a month for DSL but, like an addict, I cannot bring myself to go back to the slow, broken connections of the past. Check it out!

Check out FreeWWWeb. I use it, and I get pings(to servers closeby) of around 170-200. I WOULD get DSL, but I can't. When I move, I will.

BTW, I think Rooster's is on a bad part of the Net. I get really bad pings to it, and it's not that far away. I think there's some bad routers that he's connected to. And it seems like Rooster's is ALWAYS running November! Every time I go there, that's what it's running.

Rooster's is on the west coast. I'm east coast and I used to get "good" pings of 280-320.
Here is an example of what I deal with.

how deceiving my pings are. Just think what if it said 300 instead of 200...

I know that I am probably gonna piss you off by saying this, so in advance... I Appologize.

I am also a LOUSY speller sheesh

Anyways.................... :(

Quit your *****ing. It is not UT that is hosing your connection, it is the OVER CROWDING of the internet that is doing it. Sheesh... the internet was not originally designed to handle the amount of data traffic that it has today. Although we are getting better with it, it still has areas that simply can not handle the BILLIONS of users that are out there every dayl.

I agree from the above mentioned idea. LOOK INTO DSL/CABLE/ISDN... At least the speed will increase. I have played UT on a T-1 to a T-1 and it LAGed even then, so just Frag on and deal with it.... The rest of us are... I play UT EVERYDAY as well I get bumped off the server, I get LAG but I ALWAYS come back for more :)

Lag is natural.
As a matter of fact, if you spell lag backwards...

uhhh Rooster's is not on the West Coast. It's in the N/Midwest. Anyway...that happens very rarely with his server.

I know exactly how you feel man, because until 1 month ago, my connection (56k) was the ultimate shít. It can be so frustrating. Sorry for ya, man.

Well 1 month ago, I got ISDN and since that, I'm totally satisfied with my connection.

Get a better connection; it's the only way to go. Analog 56k sux. Simple as that.

I've played UT online a couple of times and gave up. TFC handles lag much better.

Quit complaining! A lot of us are in the same boat.

Try playing around with the NETSPEED. If you set it lower, you get less framerates, but better ping.

I got on one day, I could not play one damn game, pings through the roof. I get on the next day, and I won two matches. Kentucky Fried UT is usually pretty good for me, so is Roosters.

Don't give up, all of us HPB's are in search of servers with low ping and no llamas. It's an endless struggle. Hang in there! :)
